Well...I'm kind of partial to the guys. The power, the speed, the wondering if they're going to do everything they planned....Just really enjoy the guys. :)

Dustin

Definately the ladies... Usually most of the suprises happen in the ladies. Dance results are pretty predicable, along with pairs and usually the top 2 or 3 for the men.

Definitely the ladies. I owe much of that to Michelle Kwan. I enjoy the pairs, and watching Yadgudin, too. I am not too interested in dance.

Ladies is definitely in first for me - but the others are tied for second...and you might as well throw synchronized skating in there too - I'm a sucker for all of them!

Ladies of course, followed by Pairs and Ice Dance (I enjoy watching the ladies in Pairs and Dance, but pay scant attention to those guys who insist on following them around on the ice ;)).

Singles are my favorite--ladies followed by men.

Pairs come in a very distant 3rd and dance a very dismal 4th.

I will have to admit that when I got to see dance "live" at the '99 and '01 Skate America competitions, I thoroughly enjoyed them. Perhaps I need to see dance "live" to truly get a sense of the speed and the excitement.

However, I really enjoy all skating so please don't think I am putting down paris and dance. I'm just expressing my personal preference as far as the disciplines go.

I agree, HSF, except that I like men more than the ladies, mainly because of the speed and power. And I love the quads and the constant pushing of the sport. But the ladies are a close second, then pairs then dance.

Of dance, I like the compulsories because that's the only part I can begin to understand. I liked dance better under the old rules, when the OD was the OSP and the free dance looked more like ballroom. But I'm old. <sigh>

By far it has to be pairs. There is so much more you can do with two people on the ice. Ladies can be pretty interesting too.

I love the ladies :D I am so surprised that so many people like Dance. Outside of liking a program or not liking a program, I can't tell what's what!

LMM
03-15-2002, 08:18 PM
The reason I like dance the best is because every second of the program and every movement is critical to the performance. Dancers have the opportunity to be more creative and show a variety of styles from year to year.

I like the Men next best because of the intensity of competition between them, not to mention the awesome jumps!

Next, I like Pairs teams who have unique programs - something with a theme or that really shows their personality. Sometimes I find Pairs teams do a lot of stroking around to set up for the next required element which is totally why I would put the Ladies as my last preference. I usually enjoy the final flight of Ladies, but the rest are usually pretty painful to watch...stroke, stroke, stoke, jump (maybe), stroke, stroke, stroke, spin...sorry, but they all look the same to me.

I know that sounds a bit critical, but I do still hold all skaters in high regard, because I sure can't do any of those things on ice!

Darn, I enjoy watching dance, too! Maybe Peter is influencing that discipline. :) Well, I do enjoy those deep edges and fast footwork.

Most definitely dance! In the other 3 disciplines it usually changes, depending on the quality of the field, but dance is always on top.

Until this season Pairs has been my second favorite, but without S&P and B&S it has dropped.

Right now I'd say:
1. Dance
2. Ladies
3. Pairs
4. Men

I've gone from zzzzzzz when Dance is on to now making sure I don't miss it! With all the drama that goes on its almost like watching a soap opera.
I'm still not sure whats more exciting, watching the dancers perform their programs or waiting to see what the judges are going to do with them. ;)

3-Pairs
4-Dance (I gave up on this discipline in the 90's. During the 80's it was my 2nd fav. discipline behind men.)

Pairs had to be my number one choice, but Men's would have been a tie if I could vote for two. I always watch the ladies, also, though, so really, all I can say I don't watch is dance. I used to like Silverstein and Pekarek (sorry, don't even know if that spelling is close,) but now it is a complete yawn for me, as well as becoming an international embarassment to the sport. Just my humble opinion, and a wowzer way to say hello in my first post here!

PAIRS - didn't used to like Pairs, I used to think (all that propoganda) that Pairs was for 'failed' singles skaters ..... then I saw a Pairs couple at my rink and fell in love (with Pairs not the skaters ;) )

MENS - say no more, nice rear view helps

DANCE - used to DETEST Dance until I started doing it myself, understood 'why' and then, of course, there's Gwendal to gaze, sorry, look at :)

LADIES - prefer the pro ladies to the amateur ranks

and then, of course, there's synchro (or precision as 'us' old timers know it as) ..... mixed views on this one .... a good team is GREAT, anything less ....... mmmmmm

Had to vote for pairs, just because of my preference for the whole bravery/guts/toughness thing. I remember sitting at a late night practice at the Indy Challenge last August, watching Rena Inoue falling over and over and over again on her right hip while she and John Baldwin were practicing the same throw jump. She just could not land it, and her hip was taking a beating. Kept getting up and going again, though...that took guts. Especially considering the way she limped down the hall once they finally gave it up.

Interestingly enough...when it came time to put it in the program in front of the judges the next day, she nailed it.

I'm another dance convert...used to find it really boring, but now that I'm a little more knowledgeable about it, everything else looks weird! What do you need all that jumping and spinning for?

I've always preferred men to ladies though, just for the sheer power of it.

Always been pairs for me. Even when I don't have a "favourite" pair competing, the pairs discipline for me is the perfect balance of athleticism and romance/artistry.

Men's is second, but largely due to my fave skaters (including but not limited to Kurt, Brian O., Alexi, Emanuel, Takeshi, and Scott).

Mine seems to have changed. It used to be the men without question, b ut as wonderful as the current crop of men are, their programs are remarkably unimaginative to me (Excpetion: Klimkin and perhaps Matt Savoie)

The women, OTOH right now are amazing. There are som many women in contention and I like some of the routes they are taking. Add a few triple axels and I will be in heaven
I am liking pairs more and more, but with B&S and S&P not competiting there are less teams I enjoy, but I look forward to see the new teams develop.

Dance? well, just too much for me: too much emoting, too much ragged costumes and over the top hairstyles and make up and ridiculous "themes" for me. And it is too bad because the discipline itself is wonderful, but the trappings frankly ruin it for me.

It used to be womens and only womens, but then I began to take notice to Plush, and that changed. Alexei helped too. That's when my preference changed. Sasha is probably why women are still in second because pairs is pretty good too.

Hi. This is my first post. It's great to see a board that stays on topic and is not there to be hurtful or demeaning to the skaters.

I chose the men because as a Canadian, I have had so many years of enjoying great mens events. With so many champion skaters the men are always trying to push the envelope both athletically and artistically.

I also enjoy the other disciplines and watch them all whenever I get a chance. In Canada the women have struggled for a long time and there is now some optimism with the new crop of ladies skaters. Time will tell, but at present if there is one discipline I would not follow closely, it would have to be the ladies.

I love ladies the most, pairs is VERY exciting to watch live, and of course I also enjoy men's.

I have lost all hope and respect for Dance. It's pretty to watch, but it shouldn't be a "sport" because it's too subjective and too political and it will never change. :?

IrishDancer
06-16-2002, 07:51 PM
In order of preference, it would be 1. Dance 2. Pairs 3. Ladies 4. Men.

Dance used to be my least favourite discipline. At some point I don't suppose I even knew what dance was. It was Pasha Grishuk that made me a fan, I think. I used to be really into pairs for Isabelle Brasseur and Lloyd Eisler, but now I don't really watch it. It kinds of scares me with all the jumps and such. I do like Jamie Salé and David Pelletier though. Also I find the singles events a little bit boring because I can't tell the jumps apart. I definitely prefer the over-the-top drama of ice dance. :D

I like the ladies' competition the best because of the beauty of their skating (well, at least most of 'em).
I like pairs second because of the high flying danger and excitement in throws and lifts.
The men are third on my list. Too many men bore the heck out of me. I only pay real attention to their jumps...most men's programs seem too even throughout.
Dance is my least favorite event, although I think it's a bit more exciting to watch now than I did a few years ago. It still strikes me as the most boring, especially exhibitions.

I love watching the SKATERS, so I just enjoy whatever discipline they happen to be doing. When they skate with skill and musicality and emotion, be it ladies, mens, pairs or dance, it's a thing of beauty. I always hope to see a performance where the skater will slip into the zone, let it all flow, and skate a personal best!

given all the negative press and the politics and the crazy scoring, you gotta love the kids who dance for the joy of it. it really shows on the ice. not to detract from the skaters in other disciplines, for the dancers the rewards are so slim and the scoring so inconsistent that you know in order to survive they must be deeply inner-motivated by the love of the sport.

The MENS all the way, of course (.... mostly because of a guy called Yagudin .... ) ... then the Pairs, aheaed of Dance. Pairs, men, dance, and ladies in that order. Truthfully, tho', I love 'em all! And my preferences do change from time to time.

I've loved this sport for over 30 years, and that will never end. But I've decided that this year, I'm going to watch for the skating only...I have no trust left in the heirarchy of skating, and the judging of skating events. The new system of judging..IMO...is just a joke (temporary stitches in an open wound). And it's way past time figureskating had its own president. OCinq is an embarrassment to our beloved sport.
(sigh ....sorry for this little outburst).

Can't wait for Skate America and Skate Canada (I'm so happy this year we are seeing both B&K and Dubreuil and Lauzon at Skate Canada). I'm getting sooooooooooo excited!! Can't wait to see all the new programs!

Ladies, then mens, then dance.

I love the pairs in a different way: I can't watch the pairs competitions live, because I am too nervous about the throw jumps (especially the throw-triple twists -- terrifying, thrilling, insanely high throw triple twists!)

I usually creep into the room to watch the final flight of pairs at Worlds and Olympics because I have to find out how my favorites skated, and then I'll watch the tape of everyone.

Barely breathing, of course.

Dance without a doubt. Especially this year should be very exciting nationally as well as intenationally. I'm very anxious to observe Tarasova/Morosov/Usova's first year as coaches to U.S. teams.

Mens of course ..... I've to say THANK YOU to all those glorious Russian/Ukrain guys who held men skating up during the 90s and this new early century and made (and still make!) it a joy and excitement to watch, Viktor Petrenko, Alexei Urmanov, Ilia Kulik, Alexei Yagudin, Evgeny Plushenko and Alexander Abt - without them it would've been a lousy business, I fear! :??

Pairs and Dance are somewhere between, and the Ladies are just boring. Same-old-same-old, I'm just tired of all those plastic ballerinas!

PAIRS, The most difficult of all. You must be good at Mens and Ladies single elements jumps and spins. You must have unison, flow, and edges like dancer's elements. Plus you must do the very difficult throw and overhead lift elements. Pair skating is everything you could see in skating wrapped up in one event.

Before 88, lady - katerina witt, debbi, tiffany and then throw in a midori who kept on breaking records.

At 88, pair (G&G), lady (throw in the surprise of elizabeth), and man (the brians and then Kurt landed the first quad) were all so exciting.

88 - 92 men - kurt vs. petronko. Midori also continued to add excitment by breaking new records.

After 92 - not very exicting.

At 94 - pair and men (return of many great champions with better performances, and the surprise of the candelaro). Also oksana added a bit of excitment to lady.

After 94 - lady (lu chen, michelle, lipinski).

At 98 - lady (lipinski, michelle, irina, lu chen, maria) and dance (G&P and the Canadian pairs, the rise of A&P). Would have been better with better judging on dance.

After 98 - men (alexei vs. evgeny, and so many more new quads).

At 2002 - lady (sarah, sasha and many young or less established skaters rising up or making a break thru'), men (the play off btw alexei and evgeny).

Definitely mens! I started off as an Alexei fan - then I decided I liked mens as a whole (at first I HATED ladies. Every routine seemed to be the same 'look at me, I'm pretty' thing). Now, though, I really enjoy all figure skating, but definitely mens the most. The power, the footwork, and even the music choices make it by far the most interesting discipline.

There is no comparison. The Russian men combine artistry with fantastic techs. Watching the ladies, I feel like I just watched Jr skaters. I have to get into pairs but I do enjoy them. I don't care for ice dancing at all- what IS that?

I like singles skating the best, but it's a toss up between men and ladies. I like the power and speed of the men and the way they command the ice. I like the spirals and different spin positions that the ladies do. In general, I just like singles because it's the most athletic of the four events and the most individual, and I've always been into individual sports more than team sports.

I like pairs next because you get to see such a variety of moves: jumps, throws, pairs spins, lifts, and you get to see both the men and women so it's like the best of both worlds to me. I also like the interaction between the two partners on the ice.

I like dance the least. I enjoy seeing the new programs and all, but still have problems believing that what I'm seeing is a sport. Sorry, dance fans! ;)

Pairs by far is my favorite discipline. Im a former pairs skater so of course it's going to be my favorite discipline. I believe pairs is one of the most difficult disciplines beacuse of the strength. each partner must be very strong and also must be a very consistant singles skater. Plus working with and trusting another person takes alot of time and effort but it's worth it.

Yes i do agree it's very difficult especially in the US to find a pairs partner. If any guys are looking for a partner let me know.

well, of course DANCE. but:

aaack...get some historical perspective girl!!! how can you dis pairs? there is always hope for pairs. some of the GREATEST skaters in the world are/were pairs. (think G&G, B/S, or ArturD and anyone he wants to toss and/or carry around).

i just lurve something about the couple interaction and the added joy or despair that fans experience as a result of every side by side move (jump, spin, footwork).

pairs combines aspects of dance and singles and is challenging and atheletic. and can you really yawn your way through a pair skate by someone like Shen and Zhao???

there are some fine pairs ripening now...Chinese and Russian teams. me, i can't wait to see them and any new pairings of the season.

Welll....I do make some small exceptions. I agree with you on all the greats, but with the exception of S/Z, the skaters you listed are no longer in the amateur ranks. My disciplines-of-preference are pretty fluid, but right now, I've seen no pair team that could even begin to challenge S/Z (or the mighty Chinese pairs bridage), and the American pairs are in such a sorry state, that I just can't get excited over pairs. As for the Russians, while I agree with T/M's high marks, they personally don't excite me, nor do Pet/Tikh. O/S--wow--but, oh yeah, they split up!

synchro is the best because it is the most exciting to watch, and you wonder what a team will do next.and, when a team does really well, they will have their best friends there to share the success with, and when a team does bad, they will be there for eachother and be in it together.it is so much fun doing lifts, intersections, jumps, and back & front flips on the ice with all those people in unison.the competitions are so much fun because teams cheer for eachother, and are very competitive with eachother.it's fun going places all over the country with your best friends, and sharing one common goal of skating.;) :!:
dance is also fun to watch!

I love Dance of course.

And the Men.

Least favorites are Ladies (I know that's hard to believe) and then Pairs.

I think for me it has something to do with what you are exposed to, at least as a skater. At my rink growing up, we had excellent Men skaters and had a pretty big dance program (everyone did dance, even those top-ranked Men!) and so-so ladies and only 1 Pair team, so I wasn't really exposed to that.

I think the people that don't "get" dance just haven't really been around dance and dancers that much, although I can totally understand not "getting" dance in the last few years if you are only watching the free dance -- I have to admit that I, too, am confused by what I've seen from the "top teams" in the Free Dance. I much prefer the OD and CD segments of that competition!

(And, yes, it is a sport!! -- try it sometime!)

For my own skating:

1) Dance
2) Figures
3) Moves
4) Synchro

5) Freestyle a very distant LAST:oops:

I don't understand. How does it differ from dance or pairs?

Stella Errans
07-23-2003, 07:38 PM
Ok, well it is different from dance because the pair is not always together and there are no compulsaries also, creativity is strongly encouraged and the skaters are free to choose any music they like (vocals or not). Double and Triple jumps are not allowed. It is very much like a free dance but with alot less rules.

Where are you from that they're doing this? Because we don't do it in the US, unless you're talking about ISI, and because ISI is recreational, not competitive, most people online aren't familiar with it.

I answered men´s discipline although a few past years I have found it competitionswise rather boring, with the exception of the past season. In my opinion it is not very exciting to watch a competition when the gold and silver medal are divided even before the competition starts, LOL. In these days the ladies competition has been more exiting. I think though that also mens will be exciting in next season as the Olympics are approaching and there are some "new" names who might be successful.

As I started to watch figure skating in early sixties my favourites were the pairs and ladies. I did kind of watch the mens too, but only got interested as John Curry came on the scene.

For next season it will be:

1. Men/ladies equally
3. Pairs
4. Ice dance

1. Singles. It's the most individual and most athletic, and I like individual sports more than team sports. It's a toss-up between the men and ladies. I like the power and speed of the men, but the ladies pay more attention to spins, spirals, and details of choreography.

2. Pairs. I like the variety of pairs moves: jumps, throws, pair spins, side-by-side spins, lifts. It's not as athletic as singles, IMO, but in some ways it's more technically difficult. It takes a huge commitment to learn all of these moves. Besides, even if it is a boring program at least you have the big elements to look forward to.

3. Dance. I like to see the new programs and all, and I'll watch certain teams that have good programs, skills, and personality like Belbin and Agosto in particular, but I don't appreciate the athletic aspects of dance as much as I admire the singles and pair skaters.

4. Syncho. Never seen it.

It use to be ladies, but now it's the men's because I'm so impressed with Evgeny's constant push to do better and better programs. I LOVED his program this year and he was so amazing. I am also impressed with Brian Joubert and I like Johnny Weir. The men's World competition was so good because everyone skated clean. I also love ice dancing now because I really LOVE the Russians N/K. There music and choreography is so interesting and they are wonderful. I love Irina, Sasha, Yukina Oto, and Bebe Liang, but since Irina was ill most of this year, and I don't get to see much of Yukina and Bebe, Sasha is the only one that interests me, and when she isn't at a competition my interest isn't there. The highlight for the ladies for me was the Marshall Event because Sasha did so well and won and Irina looked so much better then she did at Worlds. I was happy that Sasha won a silver at Worlds this year, and won the Campbell's event too.

MizEdiesBoy

Even though I love to watch the ladies, I am acutely aware that the men's skating is a lot more difficult because their freeskates are 30 seconds longer and they are unofficially required to land quad jumps -- all of that takes a lot more energy. Plushenko is the best in the business right now as far as men are concerned, but once Weir and Sandhu and Joubert are more consistent, he'd better watch out --- especially if Joubert gets a quad-triple-triple and improves his weak spins. Plush's spins are weak, but Joubert's are weaker

If only Joubert could steal Stephane Lambiel's spins.....

As far as pairs and ice dancing, the leading Chinese pairs are fine with me, they are wonderful, and Belbin and Agosto, I hope, are the North American successors to Bourne and Kraatz....they have a wonderful, youthful, clean-cut style that is just compelling to watch. Tanith's toe-curling beauty doesn't hurt either.

There's a couple pair dancers at my rink which are truly fun to watch, and very good, even though they are in their 50's.

I like female skaters, because I can't help but fall in love at first sight with a woman who knows how to skate ;-). Okay so it's not quite that bad, but I tend to find women more appealing than men in many arts - music is another example.

I do like a few men, especially folk like Todd Eldridge who are really good.

Last is ice dancing just because I have never seen it.

cshobe, I most definately agree with you. Women that can skate really graceful have absolutely astounded me as of late.

I still like the men's event. Once I realized how far a lot of men are pushing the sport ( Weir, PLushenko, Sandhu, etc.) it really impressed me. Men also give me a practice to relate to It completely changed my paradigm of think of figure skating as something it was cool to watch women do, to something that I want to try and get good at.

My second favorite is ice dancing, because it's so unlike the other practices. Every program is so unique and defining, and the range of music choices and styles is very colorful! It seems as if it allows for the most innovation. Unfortunately I beleive it is the hardest, so I won't be trying it for long. That and I'd have to get a partner, which is a whole 'nother story.

always the mens'. this comes first, then very closely the dance event. then the pairs and the women which is usually of very little interest to me since surya bonaly quit.

I voted for the dance event, though I also adore watching pairs.

For the wonderful technical elements, men are the best for me to watch, but when it comes about grace, the ladies event beats everything else ;)

Definitely the men ;) because of the energy that they all put in......then the pairs, dance and the ladies all on equal 2nd place !!!!

I'd have to say the ladies. I always feel that the competition is really intense. Many of the top ladies now are just so fierce about competing, that the excitment level is really high to me. Don't get me wrong, I love watching the men's event too, but I feel that as of this point, they men don't have that intensity to them. I watch skating on TV to get the thrill of watching the event. I like getting nervous and not being sure about what is to come.. and to me the ladies give me that feeling.

My favourite skating disiplines are Pairs & Ladies. However for me it really depends on the skater,ie I do not enjoy all of the Ladies nor Pairs but am fond of some of the men. So I guess personality & individual style are whats important.

Then mens, then ladies, then pairs, and finally synchro, but there really isn't much in it!!

I seem to be the exact reverse of the average. I choose pairs with dance a close second, then mens',then ladies. Does that make me an outcast? :)

with you in that order til post-SLC 2002. Right now, I like mens. Sometimes, ladies(though they are sometimes so zzzzz...programwise compare to mens) then dance and lastly pairs  . Pairs used to be so much fun since 1984 but now it is just not the same and don't get me started on the pairs spins/death spirals and a whole lotta more!

Unbelieveable because the last time I was ever drawn to mens skating was during the era of Kurt, Orser and Boitano!

1) Ladies
2) Men
3) Pairs
4) Dance

I've seen a little bit of synchro, but not enough to really be able to rank it yet.

I'd LOVE to see Fours. Could you imagine how amazing Fours might be in these times with the level of difficulty that pairs are expected to demonstrate? Multiply it by 2 and you get Fours! Shwew!!!!

I just think ice dancing is great and so is pairs they have to work together and that makes it more interesting than singles although I do like many of the ladies and men. :D

more originality and very fun to see). I just adore this skaters.
2 - Men/Ladies
3 - Dance

Dance is definitely my favourite, but i don't mind watching mens. I'm an ice dancer myself, so I know what is good and what is not so good. I used to do freeskate, but I don't find it nearly as interesting as dance. I like watching all levels of dance- from pre juv to senior. But I really only like watching senior men, and I don't even like watching senior ladies. Pairs.. well it's not as artistic as dance, but i enjoy the lifts and cool moves.

I voted dance because that is what I LOVED skating the most when I had a partner who was 6' 4" (I am 5' 9") 8-) When he retired, that left Ladies. (I liked helping with Synchro but was too tall).

Men all the way. Far more interesting than anything else. Second choice would be the Pairs, then Ladies, then Ice Dance. To me, Ice Dance isn't really a sport. Though the new scoring system has pressured them to be more athletic.

So ya, final verdict: Men's

:) :!: Men is the most exciting kind of skating for me. The difficulty of their programmes can even shock from time to time. I admire them besides Plushchenko. He is too proud and he has never managed to perform without any mistake. Maybe it's strange but beeing a Russian i'm fond of Brian Joubert greatly. For me he is really the best skater on the planet nowadays.
I like pairs and dances but if to speak about ladies i think that their level is not so high as it should be.Of course i's only my own opinion.
Men forever:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

I went to Nationals in Portland last year and saw the freeskate for both men and women. The biggest difference I saw was that the mens' programs had more variety and were more original. To be honest, the womens' programs, for the most part, were the same thing just with different dresses to look at. That's just my opinion of course. At that particular competition Kwan was beautiful as usual, and Kimmie Meissner raised the roof with her triple axle, but all the rest of the girls seemed to be very similar. It just seems like the guy "let loose" a little more.

Heh. Tough one. At first I was going to go for Men's since it is usually fair and I love Plushenko. And that war between Plushy and Alexei in 2002 was so cute. (Don't ask.)

But I picked Ladie's. It's quite breathtaking...:P

Though if I have the opportunity I love to wathc synchro! I like watching pairs and Ladies too again Jamie and David, and Isabelle and Lloyd are amazing! So I guess I love them all...I love watching really good skaters to what they're best at!

i love love love dance. it's so artistic. it seems that that is the only disipline that i think really works well with the new judging system. i think that the new system works with the others too. but i think it has actually helped dance. it's soooo fun to watch. i like the ladies too deffinatly. i also love pairs. men are ok. with them it seems everything is about jumps. it's like that with the ladies too but i think it's worse with the men. don't get me wrong i like jumps but they can be over done. you know what i mean?

Well...*thinks hard*...I love watching the Ladies - aka Kimmie Meissner, Emily Hughes, Sasha Cohen - and ice dance because Pam used to do that...and pairs because there's always the risk that they'll fall so it's impossible to look away, which means you never miss a trick...and the men...need I say anymore? ;)

Men's Skating is the best because. . . I do it!!! I'm a big fan of the athleticism first and style second. Johnny Weir is the truth. I don't care what anyone says about him; in my opinion he's one of the most complete skaters I've ever seen. But the Japanese ladies really got me excited this year at worlds because of these triple-triple combinations and triple axels!! But Men's skating is what it's all about. The honorable mention goes to Pairs skating.

I LOVE men's!! My favourites are Alexei Yagudin (if you didn't already know:P ), Jeff Buttle (I've met him a few times and I have multiple autographs from him), and Elvis Stojko. I guess in general I just love skating... no matter the dicipline.

I love all skating so i chose that. but, if my life depended on it, i would chose ladies (cos thats wat i compete) then pairs, then men then dance.
ladies is good cos there is so much artistry, when they skate its more of a performance.
pairs for the same reason as ladies but i dont like it as much cos i dont know what many of the elements are.
then men cos some of them, not all, just look like their heart isnt in it. If the guys have a really artistic performance, or they are really hot (wat can i say, im a teenager) i like it better than ladies.
dance is last cos there is no jumping and i like jumps.

Men and pairs are tied with me. Women are a very distant third with the bottom of the pack being dance ... the costumes, hair and makeup are usually too off the wall to even look at without laughing, how do dancers expect to be taken seriously looking like that?????

I like to watch pairs and ladies. My least favorite is mens. Can't watch them. I associated skating as female oriented and feel uncomfortable to watch men. The continued association toward effeminacy oreintention either rightly or wrongly has hurt skating as far as men go. I will watch dance now. I used to dislike it. Since the changes toward a competative sport, I enjoy this a lot more.

The continued association toward effeminacy oreintention either rightly or wrongly has hurt skating as far as men go. I thought the trend in Mens skating was moving toward more "manly" programs and choreography? You should reconsider - there are some awesome men's programs to watch this season.
