do single jumps and build up to 60 seconds (single jumps meaning you jump over the rope constantly not jump-jump over rope-jump etc.) jump on the balls of your feet. make sure to warm up before (ie: jump rope jogging) and strech after your calf muscles, ie: stand on the balls of your foot by a step and bring your heel down. don't overstrain yourself like I did and ended up getting a shin splint! start slowly and work your way up not more than 2x/week. good luck! there are other exercises like doubles (where you jump and the rope passes under your feet 2x) but first start with singles its a great low intese plyometric and anearobic activity.

p.s wear good supportive sneakers like crosstrainers or boys basketball sneakers good luck!!
