Golden Eggs or Rotten Eggs (Practice Thread April 17-23, 2006)

Golden Eggs:
Had my first lesson with primary coach in three weeks today! She hadn't seen my new freeskate program, so uh yeah I had to do it. I did it with the disclaimer that the second half of the program is still a discomboulated mess.
Afterward, she commented that the transitions in this program were harder than the last program and yes, the loop can stay at the end ( "NJS gives more credit for harder jumps at the end"- never mind that the GOE will probably suck!).

Rotten Eggs:
There was a humidity problem in the rink today and we got those huge bumps on the ice that made me watch where I spin. During lesson, while setting up for sal-toe combo, I'd keep hitting the same bump over and over.
Sitspins in program runthrough were rushed!

Havent gone skating yet... trying to decide whether I will tomorrow or not due to Murphys Law (or the butter on bread argument)... if I skate, will I fall on my bruised knee?? More than likely!!

Its gone a lovely purpley reddy orange colour.... and it doesnt hurt internally as much... just when something rubs against it (eg. Any type of clothing)

I'll be skating in my lesson tomorrow, but I only had time to practice once this week. Hoping my coach won't be too mad! Hey, it's Passover! And I had a date this weekend that I had to spend all day looking nice for.

But my mom is coming to my practice on Thursday. I was telling her about the crazy skate moms at hte rink, and so she decided she wants to become one. Since she's on vacation, she is going to drive out to my school, and sit in a freezing cold rink for 2 hours. This rink doesn't have a toasty viewing/seating area. I warned her, and she said she'll just take a blanket. Oh well. I guess my mom feels left out of being a crazy skate mom, and decided to take it up now.

Golden Eggs: I LANDED A TOE LOOP! Yes, I realize it's like the easiest jump, but I DID ONE! And I didn't fall. YAY!

congrats!!! it does seem very easy, but to do it really well...not so easy. It gave me a lot of trouble when i was trying to learn a double toe. Double sal was soooo much easier. I still don't have double toe perfect and I've been working on it for about 4 months now. so i know what a pain this jump can be, especially with a perfectionist coach.

Golden Eggs: My new interpretive program - I love it! The choreography is finished. Now if I can only have it ready for MC in a month....

Rotten Eggs: I spent too much time out in the sun and the wind (on the dozer, excavating for a rink) and didn't realize how tired I was until it was time to skate. As a result of being tired, I didn't make much progress Spent most of the time doing backward half-sculling but couldn't even get any backward one-foot glides.

Golden Eggs: Didn't loose anything! (That's always good at my age!) Played around with backward turns and almost got a back-to-front two-foot turn (having backward edges would help!). I also found the sweet spot on my blades for spins - now all I need is the balance to actually DO spins - LOL!

Raye - see you there! Looking forward to seeing your program.
I just made my hotel reservations. I also just finished reviewing my interpretive program. With the limited time getting pairs together, I decided to use a former program. I hadn't skated it in years - it was my first interp at Nationals and I still love it.

You going to skate me out of the water again?! Probably.....

Mine is about finished now - needs more emphasis in certain parts, and one bit isn't 100% reliable - but, assuming all goes well on the day, you might even see clear air under my skates! I have a 3-jump (or waltz jump, or whatever you call it) and a cherry flip (toe loop), and I do believe I'm actually leaving the ice now. Oh, and a bunny hop, but that always did leave the ice. AND a double 3-turn, which I'm actually far more excited about, and 2 twizzles! And something that is alleged to be a spin, but probably won't be.

Mind you, when I look at my horrible Husband's step sequence, which is to die for..... except he thinks he can't do it, so he straightens his knees and sticks his bum in the air. He is stressing about his programme BIG TIME!

But our dances are almost ready, if - and it's a huge if - we can stay in time to the USFSA music. Don't know why you guys can't use the proper tunes....

Mrs R. What are the proper tunes? I've never liked the ice dancing elevator music we have.

Golden Eggs: I seem to have found my long-lost axel.
Rotten Eggs: I biked 13 miles to work today and my knees hurt. Looks like I won't be doing freestyle tomorrow.

Golden Eggs: My jumps continue to get stronger even though if I don't land my double loop solo or in the combo she may chase me around the rink and strangle me (it has a 1/4 to 1/8 cheat). 2sow and 2toe are breaking 50% which is incredible for me.

Rotten Eggs: Testing Jr moves and some dances. Maybe I'll practice.

Rotten Eggs: I'm getting a cold.. It better go away before my spring vacation next week.

Golden Eggs: After passing my Pre Alpha test last Saturday, I asked my private lesson teacher(also my group lesson instructor) if it would be possible to skip Alpha, since the instructor who tested my group said that I could probably move up one more level. So she had me do FXO and BXOs which I just learned today, and taught me how to do a T stop, which apparently is "amazing" and she said that I made her day because I was learning so fast. She said she would recommend that I be put into a Gamma class. I think that's awesome! And I've been trying to get comfortable jumping into the air.. and after falling a bunch of times I landed a toeloop the last time I skated. I feel so amazing.. and it's really good because I didn't do so well on my math test(which really isn't my fault because I was sick, and only got to number thirteen out of 20 problems. Automatic 65 at the most )

Sparkly Egg:

Golden Egg:
  • Flips are better... I lowered my shoulders and arms a bit and it gave me a better flow and allows me to land them more frequently.
  • My Forward Power 3's are better!!!
Rotten Egg: My loops...

Nothing rotten or golden: I'm now working hard on those extensions for the forward crossovers and the 5 step mohawks!!! But I ended up working on those pesky shoulders and arms...b/c it's much easier to work on those!!!

Still deciding whether I'm testing Bronze Moves in June. Part of me wants to simply b/c I want it out of the way before the summer kids hog up the rink. Part of me is thinking "Will I be ready by then?" Still don't know yet though... we'll see how my lessons are tomorrow and Thursday.

Oh good for you! I'm sure it will be more beautiful now than it was then! Have fun and I hope everyone enjoys your "encore presentation".

Sorry, but I have to ask, do you also have a "wonderful husband" -- who has a step sequence?? (I know, you meant your Husband's horrible step sequence... but this just jumped out at me when I desperately needed a laugh.)

Rotten Egg:
skating on tuesday was ok... I had a bad neck/shoulder strain from ... sleeping wrongly somehow, basically it wasnt there when i went to sleep and when i woke up it was stiff and it hurt and I couldnt move my head back wards much or to the right much without pain.
Luckily i skate to the left, so I could still get in jump and spin practises, but everything was a little odd with the stiff neck.

Golden Egg:
I still managed one good (for me...) camel spin o.O My friend said I hit 8 rounds although I counted 6 hehe. Still good either ways.

Except for those dances where there isn't an equivalent (e.g. Hickory Hoedown and Canadian Cha-Cha, which aren't in our test structure, or Riverside Rhumba which isn't in yours) we use the ISU music for everything - the European Waltz music "does" for the Dutch Waltz, British Waltz and Willow Waltz, the Foxtrot does for the Novice Foxtrot, the Blues for the Rhythm Blues, the Tango for the Fiesta & Canasta Tangoes and so on.

And the Swing Dance is done to the Rocker Foxtrot, which is why we find the USFSA music so difficult!

No, he's a horrible husband because his step sequence is way beyond anything I can do - triple 3-turns into back cross-rolls into a triple 3-turn on the other foot into double twizzles.... only he's too straight-legged and keeps falling off the twizzles (which he can't check, which is why he has to do doubles!). But I so envy those triple 3-turns.... I have one reliable double-3, one, and I can't do that at any sort of speed....

He is getting very fraught about his programme, which hasn't quite "gelled" yet. Luckily everything else is working - but after a morning in which we do five compulsory dances and our free dance, to say nothing of my dance moves and my Interpretive, all I want to do now is go to sleep.....

Golden Egg: I did a baby Killian pattern today. Multiple times. But not yet to music. Actually at one point I did 2 consecutive baby Killians solo.

Rotten Eggs: I chickened trying to do a whole pattern with my coach. Also I need to grow the baby Killian into a Toddler Killian.

I guess it's all a different perspective.. I can only convince my husband to get out on the ice once or twice a year.. if I'm LUCKY! Heck he won't even come watch because "someone might fall". I keep telling him we ALL fall and we all expect to, it's just a matter of getting up again.

All golden eggs:
i'm sooo happy, i had such a good practice today despite being absolutley shattered from skating four days in a row (usually only skate two days a week)
i landed a flip, a PROPER one foot landing did three more after that then of course couldn't do it my lesson
landed about 90% of my loops - yey so loving that jump now its finally started working.
actually manedged to do half a rotation on my lutz, which is a big move up from always going the wrong way and ending up alomst doing a clockwise toe loop instead
my sit spin is now recognisable as such, and i have a consistent back spin with 3 revs and an exit . in fact i was having such a good day and feeling so confident that i tried some backwards three turns and a double 3-turn, i couldn't do them but thats not the point

Rotten eggs: if only i didn't have to go through 6 months of getting nowhere with anything first.

Golden Eggs I'm starting to get a hang of the alternating 3 turns. Maybe it might even be testable this summer. And I started just looking for something to wear for the test session. My mom is coming to my practice on Thursday, and she might video some of it, so hopefully it won't be too bad.

Rotten eggs nothing really. Everything clicked for some reason. Gotta love a good practice. Except for some reason, my left hip hurts, and I didn't fall on it or anything. It's just really sore right now.
