ankle bone problem
Have any of you ever experienced what my coach called "skaters bone" in your ankle? After complaining about my sore ankles last night my coach took one look at the bone and told me thats what it is.
My ankle bone is swollen but it's not soft, it's hard like there is actually a growth on the bone. It started when I got new SP-Teri Super Deluxes in November. Bunga pads don't help the pain. Even out of skates, if I bump my ankle bone against something it hurts. Have any of you ever had this? What did you do about it? Does it ever go away on its own? My coach basically said if I don't want to have surgery and be told not to skate through the summer don't go to the doctor. That is not an option because I'm going to State Games of America in August. I am willing to go to the doctor when thats over, but not before. Any advice? |

Yes, I had boots where one of the eyes was over the bone, and it created a problem. Since then I got boots with assymetrical quarters, which took care of it. I went to a couple of people who had very different treatment options. I would suggest a sports medical type and a good boot fitter.

She's really not that kind of person, honest. She's great! I think she was just putting herself in my place. And the bone doesn't really bother me at all outside of skates, so I'll see what happens after this summer. Thanks for responding though skaternum! A sports medicine specialist is a good idea though flo rather than a regular doctor. Keep the advice coming! |

My right ankle bone hurt initially after I got my new SP Teri's. I had to have that section punched out to relieve the constant pressure.
It might help in your case. |

Not sure if this is the same thing, but my inner ankle bone enlarged when my SP-teri's were about 6 months old, as I was breaking them in I started pronating and that caused the pressure on the bone. I had my blade adjusted to compensate for the slight pronation and the ankle pain was gone. The bone has now reduced in size back to normal. Same situation with my daughter.....in her Harlicks....the landing foot was pronating.
