Skaternum, we were talking this morning about taking over one of Ashburn's regular FS sessions on Friday afternoon and making it a de facto competition practice... Want to do that as well as Saturday morning? As for Saturday, I'd prefer to do the latest session because it's a half-hour drive from my house and I don't want to go back and forth, which I would end up doing if I practice too early.

Ditto on that; it's about an hour's drive for me.
That said, won't the later sessions be too crowded to even think about doing pairs?

Yes to both. Yes, I like the idea of commandeering a Friday afternoon session. It appears that the 2:30 and 4:30 sessions at the Ashburn rink are clean ice. How about one of those?

And yes, I think the later practice ice sessions on Saturday will be insanely crowded. In my experience, the earlier/earliest sessions are less crowded.

Also,
If anyone needs coach/someone to put you on the the ice, let me know. I'll be there most of Saturday. I do pairs and fs - for dance I could smile encouragingly but that's about it.

Hmm, Loops, is it even worth getting up at the crack of dawn on that Sat. to skate in a crowded practice ice session when our event will begin at 3:05PM?

I'd rather sleep in.
This morning was a case in point of me getting no sleep and being deeply aggravated. (That's a lot of fun when I throw you into the air, huh?)

Oh, awesome; we might just take you up on that. I need someone to calm Loops' nerves.

Hey, for pairs my nerves are just fine usually! It's for FS and interp that I freak out.

Let's make Friday afternoon our designated pairs session, and Saturday morning can be singles practice. Of course if it's not too crowded we can squeeze in a little bit of pairs, just a couple of elements but not the whole session.

Flo, I am not looking forward to the FS event. I'll do it, I won't scratch, but it won't be pretty.

Yup, it's me who ends up shaking like a leaf.

OK, Friday it is. (I'm guessing I won't be there Sat. morning. I won't need to do any singles practice anyway.)

You better not scratch any of your events!

Does anyone know what times the freestyles are on Friday afternoon at Ashburn? The web site doesn't indicate any freestyles past 1:30 p.m. on Fridays. Is freestyle ice available later in the afternoon on the Friday before the competition begins?

Thanks.

A little panicky here

I did not get a confirmation e-mail for the competition- I've e-mailed the organizers and have yet to hear. If anyone (NoVa?) has a competitors roster of some sort, please check to see if my name is on it! Thanks!

From what I saw on the Ashburn website last night, there are freestyles all day there! You guys might find me on the early sessions, too!

Terri, you're on there for Pre-Bronze free and interp. Perhaps they mistyped your email address?

On Fridays at Ashburn, there are freestyles 6AM-10:45am and then 12:45-6PM. Specifically:
02:30 PM- 03:15 PM HIGH
03:15 PM- 04:00 PM MIX
04:30 PM- 05:15 PM FREESTYLE
05:15 PM- 06:00 PM MIX

Also, the Skate Quest Reston rink is not too far away. I've never skated there on Friday, so I cannot say how crowded it is.

Terri, I sent you both of the e-mails that were sent out last night.

If anyone else didn't receive the e-mails, I will be happy to forward them.
Just PM me.

The 3:30 - 4:10 freestyle session at Reston isn't very crowded. The 4:20-5:00 or 5:05 session is more crowded but by 5:15 or so, it thins out pretty much.

Note that there's at least one rising senior level competitor at Reston who skates on that session, plus a mix of everything from LTS to USFS Junior and a few dancers.

I'm glad you feel that way - I'm always far more nervous when I am to dance or skate with Himself, since if I mess up when I'm skating alone, well, too bad - but I so don't want to let him down. Or him me, either... but he hates dancing solo, and I'm just cr*p at it, so we tend not to!

Two weeks and counting ...
Thanks for that, NoVa! I had a good lesson yesterday and both programs feel pretty good now, so I'm not quite as freaked out! Hopefully that will continue...
