weird feeling in landing leg calf

Since coming back from Toronto(Thornhill)(I drove all the way there,
practiced, skated and then drove back.), ON I've started to have this
weird feeling in my right calf. It happens after about 45 minutes of
skating (jumps, spins, footwork, spirals and other stuff). I notice
it when I go to do a forward right inside spiral. My calf all of a
sudden looses strength and feels like it's going to buckle under me
and drop me to the ice. I readjust while in the spiral to keep from
falling using some other mucles in my leg to stay up. Then after
that, I can't seem to pop up my toe loop, loop and flip. There's just
no umph. It doesn't hurt though. My Achilles tendon on the same leg
does start to bug me. AFter skating my leg feels like it is on pins
and needles from the need down. And it is swollen. I've done
exercises, stretches and taken advil/motrin for it. But now it's not
going away.

Anyone experience this themselves?
What did you do to get rid of the problem short of stopping skating?
I've only 4 weeks left of spring skating and then I'm taking the
summer off to save up for fall/winter skating, daughter's university
fees and my 20th wedding aniversity which is Sept. 10, 2003.

I haven't had or known of a problem like yours but my best advice is to get yourself to a doctor. Don't waste a lot of time trying to fix it yourself because you don't know what this is. If it is serious, nip it in the bud.

We parents are so bad. We jump and take care of our children's health issues but are always trying to "fix" ourselves. Be good to yourself and go see your doctor!

I haven't had your specific problem, however the weakness is similar to my injury - and you know the result of that.

Don't let it go too long.

I'd check into the Advil or Motrin as well. But before you do, check with the banned list. You wouldn't want to get tossed because of drug infractions.

Sounds like a big time overuse injury - all that driving and skating. The muscle is just too weak to sustain its strength. It may be swelling from the stress and compressing adjacent nerve paths. This is one time when rest and off the ice might be beneficial, continue gently stretching for calf and achilles tendon, but lay off the strength training for a week. Let us know how you make out. We all want instantaneous fixes but it is not always possible.
