Coloured Blades?

I was at the Europeans in Warsaw at the end of January, and I noticed some of the skaters skating with blades which seemed to be tinted black. Any ideas where it's possible to get blades like that? Can it be done to normal silver ones or do they have to come like that?

Any information will be much appreciated!

Didn't/don't Ultima do black blades? You used to be able to have a 'gemstone' put into the blade too

Ultima definitely does the Matrix blade-and-runner set in black. http://www.rainbosports.com/shop/sit...8059CE37C0C307

MK does laser etching. http://www.mkblades.com/features/laser-etching.html

John Wilson offers silver and gold for certain; not sure about any other colors.

I know I saw purple blades at a tradeshow last year. Have to go dig through the brochures I picked up at the show.

A woman I teach with has very stylish black boots with the black blades+diamond. I'll have to ask her the brand tomorrow.
She doesn't wear them for teaching.

Would the rubber guards scratch these up badly?

$10 says those were Paramount blades! (And we DON'T WANT to go into that topic again! )

To quote some idiotic cartoon my DH loves: "Now don't start that again!" So, I won't.

Casey had said that you can color the silver blades with permanent marker and they look lovely.
I might try that for this year's show, depending on the costume.

ETA: the do-it-yourself thread is HERE. It was mixed in with another thread about light up blade guards.

Well I did it on gold blades actually but it's lovely either way I'm sure. And even permanent sharpie marker cleans off easily with a bit of rubbing alcohol...

The boots are the Jackson Coaches boot. Not sure about the blades, but I think they are Ultimas. She doesn't wear them much because they are very uncomfortable. I tried them on (when I was thinking about getting that model boot), and agree with her.

I saw quite a few colored blades at the iowa games today- lots of skaters on Paramounts (think I saw 3 purple, 2 pink, and at least 4 silver)

A few more bits of info...
1. You can get a black chassis for the Ultima Matrix blade but the runners only come in silver.

2. Ultima is not making their black or gold blades anymore but you can still find them here and there. Some blades had peeling problems.

3. MK/Wilson is not doing the blade etching any longer. They need to update their website.

4. You can get MK/Wilson blades plated gold for $80 extra. I think you have to order it from the factory that way so we're talking 6-8 weeks for delivery in the US. One may be able to get them quicker in England since they are made there.
