Silver MITF
Hi, all. I rarely post here, but lurk a lot.
Just had to share that I passed my Silver MITF on my first try this morning, something that was made sweeter by the fact that I was in treatment for cancer this past year. I was supposed to take the test last summer, but it got pushed aside when I was diagnosed. I kept skating through surgery, chemo and radiation (albeit very slowly!), and started training in earnest in March, after I was done with treatment. So the moral of the story is, never give up! I was thrilled to pass the test under those conditions. Ironically, I was "invited" to retest my bronze moves a few years ago, when I was blissfully unaware of my little tumor problem. So go figure! |

Way to go!
Cancer is mean, evil, and cruel. I've lost good friends and relatives to it. My hat is off to you for working through it. And of course, congratulations for passing Silver moves! BTW, there's a regional skating show near me (in Columbus, Ohio) that benefits cancer research. It's called "Skate for Hope". It's grown very successful due to the tireless work of skater and cancer survivor Carolyn Bongiorno. http://skateforhope.org/ (It looks like they've booked Tatiana Totmianina & Max Marinin again for this year's show on August 30.)

Thank you all for your kind words!
Bill, I've actually been in touch recently with Carolyn regarding her Skate for Hope show. I want to start a similar show in my city, and she's graciously agreed to speak with me regarding the logistics of organizing a production. We're currently playing phone tag, as she's extremely busy right now--the show is on 8/30. Anyhow, I'm blown away by what she's accomplished in the five years since she founded the whole thing. Amazing. |

Congratulations! That is amazing. I'm a cancer survivor who started skating because of my cancer diagnosis and I am struggling with Bronze MITF. That's so awesome that you passed Silver MITF on your first try - those moves look SO hard (as in - impossible)! And most of all, congratulations on skating through all your treatments and for beating this dread disease. Hope you have a big celebration planned.

Thanks, guys!
Livestrong, I admire you for taking up skating after your cancer diagnosis. It is so hard to learn how to skate as an adult, much less after a major illness. I started skating when I was a kid, so a lot of what I do is muscle memory. Actually, considering I've been skating on and off for 33 years, you'd think I'd be a lot farther along than Silver Moves, LOL! |

Congratulations!
I recently passed Silver MIF...on my 4th try, so I know how hard it is. Not many people pass it on their 1st attempt - good for you! And yes, patatty, I agree, brackets are evil, especially the BO ones.

CONGRATS!
I can't imagine how much of a challenge skating through chemo and treatments was. Your energy was probably at an all-time low, yet you kept your eye on the prize. I think having goals, no matter what the obstacles, keep us going through difficulty! Savor the sense of accomplishment from all of it! |
