For those who have been complaining skating is too expensive -

It may be a long shot, but there are skating scholarships.

The ISI just sent me this. BTW, you can't just join ISI and immediately collect a scholarship - there are lots of criteria.

Possibly USFSA and other national skating organizations have scholarships too.

In addition to the National ISI scholarship, the Districts can offer smaller college scholarships, usually tied to participation in ISI programs.

ISI District III (www.skatemirma.org) is one such example.

Hey Skate@Delaware - you are one of the most loyal ISI adult skaters/volunteers I've ever met. You should apply and see if you can't get some $$$ for your upcoming nursing school endeavour.

The Women's Sports Foundation also offers scholarships and grants to women pursuing higher education. They also support the development of more women's coaches through education grants.

USFSA has a number of programs to help competitive skaters. I don't know much about them since as far as I know they are not aimed at adults.

Many skaters have sponsors to help them with their expenses. I sponsor Katlynn McNab myself (www.katlynnmcnab.com :-)). If the skater signs up with a sponsoring agency like New England Amateur Skating Foundation, sponsors can usual make tax-deductible contributions to support skating. (insert legal mumbo-jumbo and disclaimers here).
