Buckeye Adult Open 2008: Who's in?

I've never been to this competition, but I really want to go this year. It is slated for the weekend of October 25 in Cincinnati, OH.

I tried to go in 2003, but they cancelled due to a lack of available judges (conflicts with Regionals). I'd hate to have them cancel due to a lack of entrants.

I am planning on it. I've said that before, but this year I am actually back to skating now in the summer so there is some hope of being in shape unlike previous years.

I think I'll be there, but don't know if I'll do freestyle (I'm working on my Silver tests) or just some of the "add-on" events.

I went in 2006 and had a blast!

We'll see. If I can get some of the other adults in my club to go, it'd be a good roadtrip. Although most of them are even lower levels than I am (barely, barely pre-bronze).

That's OK! They offer events for adult beginner levels!

The WMAS girls are the group from West Michigan (we were the loud ones in blue jackets with the banner in Lake Placid)!

I'm planning on going and signing up for as many events as I can. Silver free, interp, and if compulsory and solo dance are offered, I'll do those, too.

Looks like last year they didn't have enough sign up for solo dance to hold the higher levels, but maybe with it being added for ANs, it'll have a better turnout at competitons like this. Last year's results are here:

Looking forward to a fun time!

Thanks for posting! I'm hoping to go this year (gold ladies), but I'm in the midst of coaching and financial problems, so I don't want to make any promises yet...

I don't think I'm going to make it this year after all. One of my fellow WMASers leaves for a cruise that day and I don't want to spend $130 to just do a spins event and a jumps event.

Me too, techskater - so we'll at least have an event!

Is anyone planning to do the team event that you know of?

If anyone wants to get a high maneuver team together, let me know (I'm testing both pre-juv free and adult silver free before entries are due so I won't be able to do low). I don't think there will be enough from my area going to get one together.

I'll for sure be doing:
Silver free
Silver compulsory

Probably doing:
Entertainment/comedy interp (masters due to my dance tests)
Solo dance--blues and silver tango probably for sure. Since as of now I don't have any pre-golds and won't be testing any before apps are due, if the LOC will let me slide on the only one level higher then the test you've completed rule and I have the $$, I might do the Viennese (I'm trying to figure out if I want to do silver or gold solo dance at ANs).

Holy cow! That's expensive! I know that'll be a big barrier for many of my fellow skaters at my rink.

The price was the main deterrent for me. I was only going to sign up for Silver spins, Silver jumps & maybe interp, but that would've cost me $170 (and I really don't need a DVD of myself every single time I step on the ice)!

That, plus the travel expense (it's about a 7-hour drive from here) is just too much for me to spend right now, especially considering I've got to take 2 (likely out-of-club) tests coming up this fall/winter.

Yeah, the whole DVD thing is nice, but if it's going to deter people from coming or from doing as many events as they otherwise would or could afford, maybe it's worth re-thinking for future competitions. Or seeing if something could be worked out with the company doing the videotaping to where it's included for what you designate on the application as your "main event" but not additional events. Or it's not included at all for stuff like compulsory programs, jump/spin events, maneuver teams, etc (only freestyle, couples dances, and interps or something like that) since people typically do jumps and spins more as add-on events.

looks like I'm a go, I need to get used to competing and since I didn't do GRO, that's a long time inbetween events.

At least you have GCFI coming up to get you back into competition mode

Mel's partner is the WMASer who's leaving for her cruise that weekend, so I suspect they are out for the couples interp.

Skater1964 - the organizer will probably join us in our group since she's also a Gold Lady!
