Skating tights

Hi,

please can i have reccomendations for good quality ice skating tights? i think i would prefer footed tights rather than OTB.

also, are they see through like normal tights? i.e. do you have to shave your legs to wear them! lol

its my first time to buy tights so i dont really know which ones are best, going to last the longest etc.

thanks in advance

Footed tights, I just get those from a normal clothing store, black is really easy to get and skin color does happen too. I usually take cotton ones and whatever thickness I like (I have 2 different types, for when it's cold and not so cold).

Also for practice I transformed some footed tights to over-the-boot tights, but this is just for practice, since you can kinda see the double seam at the crotch slipping from underneath the panties on spirals. Though on black ones, that's not a problem because you don't see it, only on skin-colored ones you do. I tested in black ones.

I wear Danskin 73 footed tights. They are pretty thick - not like regular tights - and pretty hard-wearing.

I wear Danskin usually. I have one pair of Mondor tights, but I don't like them because they have a sewn on heel, like a sock, but it's too big for my foot, so I get extra fabric bunching up. And you don't need to shave your legs for them, which is great. At least, none of the ones I have.

Once or twice a year, I buy a bunch of Mondor tights from www.tidewaterice.com. Good prices.

I wear the danskin microfiber tights and then an overtight, I use the OTB type and chop off the front part to allow the front of the boot to stick out and cover the heel. This is for competition, gives a prettier leg line. Also US icewear makes a nice tight and overtight combo, same with Mondor, just different shades of beige.

Depends on how dark your hair is. For me, one pair of tights- shave. Two pair, no need to shave, but I just don't feel right if I don't shave.

I miss Capezio. They were a better color for me. I hate the grey shade of Mondor. And I REALLY REALLY hate all their rediculis fastners for OTB - Capeziao elastic was perfect for me. Sniff sniff.

I really, really love Baryishnikov tights. They come in Nude or Black and footed and footless. I wear one pair of footed and the one pair of footless over. They are really stretchy, but strong.....like spandex for my whole leg.

i brought some danksin tights yesterday

unfortunatley i couldnt try them on in the shop. they fit but the colour it a bit awful, they only had 'toast' so i figured that they would be ok since other people in my area with my skin colour would buy them, but they are waaaaaaaaaaaaay too dark

also, i asked for skating tights but when i checked the danskin website last night i realised that the tight i brought were just the 'ultra shimmery' ones, not the specialist skating ones

was thinking of selling them on ebay or something and buying the Mondor 3371 tights. has anyone had/seen these?

jskater 49 - which colour of mondor tights do you have?

You know, I don't know. I buy them from vendors at competitions since there is no where around here to get them, or from Rainbow sports and I don't remember ever being asked what color I wanted. I just order the brand and the size and that's what I get.

I wear footed Mondor tights. I bought the 3310 ones, but feel that thaty are too thin for me because I only wear one pair and all my bruises can show through . I also have 3345 footed tights and they are just perfect for me. I can get bye on one pair and they are nice and warm . The color doesn't bother me that much. They also have a slight sheen to them.

For people in the UK - and arguably in other countries where Lidl has outlets - they occasionally do 100 denier tights in several colours at this time of year, and it is well worth stocking (pun not intended) up on these, as they are very warm and don't have a hard line at the top of the leg. Perfect for practice!
And not at all bad for cold and frosty mornings like today - I have a pair on as I write, as I'm wearing a skirt today.

Mind you, I've gone off Lidl since we went to the one in Dunkerque and found that the prices were the same in euros as they are in pounds here, which is a serious rip-off!

We usually buy Danskin Microfiber Footed Skating Tights. #73 or Mondor 3337 Evolution Footed Tights tights and, on cold days, my skater wears footless sweater tights over those: http://www.tidewaterice.com/cgi-bin/...ey=mondor3367a.

For other days and for competition, she wears footed tights with Mondor 3338 Evolution Over the Boot Tights

If you don't want to wear two pair of tights, you could also try Mondor #3371 Opaque Plus Footed tights. These are heavier, footed tights, but they might make your skates tight.

thankyou for the suggestion mrs redboots, i will keep a look out for those

thanks for the info lenny2 - the mondor 3371 tights sond great, i usually wear socks and footless leggings to skate with a skirt but now i want to wear tights so i think my skates should fit fine with the thick tights.

Should be fine. Certainly no thicker than a sock. Just a bit thicker than a traditional pair of tights.

I wear the Main Street Dancewear microfiber tights, usually nude footed or footless. They are comfortable and silky soft (like the Baryshnikov tights, but with no binding elastic waistband). They are SO comfortable and are good for wearing to work (much stronger than pantyhose). I can't say enough how much I LUUURVE these tights!

Don't buy the cheap ones! Buy Mondor they are anywhere from 15 to 30 dollars. The cheap ones ripped the first day I got them. I have had a lot of luck with Mondor. No you don't have to shave your legs.
