Well if it's driving distance I'm going to have to get my bronze FS by then!

OKAY! No excuses for 2010. I didnt' feel ready to do the pre bronze dances...and it was expensive to go to Michigan - but this is 3 hours away.

OH I HOPE THEY STILL HAVE SOLO DANCE next year.

2010 I AM IN. If they have solo dance that is.

Yay - only a 3.5 hour flight from Newark Airport to Minn/St. Paul, so looks like I'm in. If I don't pass Bronze fs by then I'll...blame my coach?

Well, I guess Minnesota in April is better than Minnesota in January, but still....

If they want a big turnout, it might be better to have AN in a...um...less wintry place. It is April, after all.

Some of us live in wintry areas and April is not bad at all. They had Nationals in Minnesota in JANUARY!

Uh-oh. I haven't even passed (or attempted, for that matter) Pre-Bronze anything and now I'll need to get my Bronze tests passed by April 2010. Not a lot of time, for someone who can barely skate!!! But I live in the Twin Cities and so this is a "must" for me - a good goal to have (while I'm also starting a new career and all AND have kids in swimming and hockey - oh, well, life'll be just a bit MORE insane for a while).

Mimi

P.S. JSkater - I hope you'll enter Light Comedy/Interp next year - I'd LOVE to see your "Master of the House" program again, it was really terrific!

Oh quit with the "I can't skate" ...I've seen you skate.

And I don't know if I could pass all 3 pre-bronze dances in time to be able to do interp...but I hope they have the solo dance again because THAT I could manage in a year....

And to be fair- MN is a "springy" place in April, winter is over by then. Spring isn't usually warm, and there might be still snow- but it's nothing like winter.

Still- I'd take a snowy drive up to having to pay $400 to fly somewhere.

Yeah - you've seen me skate, so you know perfectly well that I don't hold a candle (not even a little bitty birthday-cake candle) to your skating!!! And I am guessing you'll pass Bronze Freestyle a lot faster than I will - remember, I saw BOTH of your skates earlier this month, they were both really good, and you have or are close to the jumps you need as well as those edges. Me, I have NO jumps (except an inconsistent bunny hop ), and no decent threes, and am not close to either a sit spin or a back spin. Oh, well, I'll have my work cut out for me. I keep telling myself that back in the year 1982 (really!!!) I could do all the above except for the back spin . . . have never done a back spin in my life. We shall see.

Mimi, who is getting a bit ambitious here.

Mimi - I'm not even going to try to pass bronze freestyle - this body will never do a sitspin.

Wow. I just want to get through AN 09 first.
Why was this announced so early? Just curious.

OK, here goes. . . This is my annual whine about ALWAYS having to pay to fly somewhere and ALWAYS having to compete in a time zone that is 2-3 hours ahead of mine so I feel like I'm skating at 4:00am! In the 6 years I've been competing, it has never once been on the West Coast.

WOW!!! That's EARLY!!!

But no matter -- after AN 09, I plan on taking a break to do Silver Moves. I need it! I will be back for AN once I pass Silver Moves or Gold Moves depending on the timing and my $$$ situation. If I'm too broke to travel, I'll stay home and work on Gold Moves.

Yes, whine away, doubletoe!!! I'm with 'ya there too!!!

Sadly, not in this economy situation. I mean, I was hoping for the Hack in 2010... but I guessing it's too $$$ to rent the rink too...

The last time I competed in MN was in March 1995 and I remember it being pretty tolerable weather-wise.

I am excited to have the opportunity to go back to the Mall of America!

Hopefully, I will have passed my Silver tests by 1/15/10, so I can compete in freestyle!

Well, I am not at all sure that a tush the size of mine will EVER get airborne, so the jumps may just be a pipe dream. That, or I may actually have to stick to a diet for a change. And my knees will HATE the sitspin - I spin more naturally to the right, but will have to do my sitspin (if indeed I ever do one) to the left because no way will my right knee support it. No matter - I am going to try it. My house is about 45 minutes from the rink in Bloomington, so if I can get those tests passed . . .

Mimi, whose knees aren't gonna like this.

Uh oh!!! Do we need to get someone from "Gamblers Anonymous" after you, MSF???

Too bad you rejoined your skating club before the announcements about our sectionals being at Vegas came out too. And hell, at this point, I'm NOT planning to go to Sectionals either, as much as I REALLY REALLY want to go there! Given my moods as of late... if it wasn't for AN, I would be working on Silver Moves now instead of putz around trying to get a half axel.

I will agree that I'd like to compete somewhere warm, Dallas did have that going for it. But to counter the whine about the west coast -- BID!!! I know the rink in Scottsdale has an adequate facility. What about your own clubs, encourage them to bid and you then you can host.

Doubletoe,
This is where you get your cronies and yourself to get one of the LA area clubs to bid on AN '11. I'm sure with wealth of skating knowledgeable folks in your neck of the woods, it can be done. If AN is ever, ever held in LA, I'd sooo be there!!

I've been to the Mystic Lake casino- it's not too bad, machines were luckyish for me and the buffet was great. Only problem was that it was very smokey.

I can't think of one rink in L.A. that is suitable. El Segundo has two surfaces, but the sound carries from one to the other, and only one has seating. Lakewood has three surfaces, only two are big enough ... and they're not sound-proof either. Maybe the two-surface Anaheim Ice, but there's zero seating on one surface. Am I forgetting any?
