Andrea had a very bad fall on the official warmup for Championship Pairs in Lake Placid. She was taken to the hospital via ambulance.

I haven't spoken to her or Lee since the accident, so I'm passing this on third hand. However Lee did post this on the AdultPairSkating forum last night:

-------------
Hi Diana
Andrea is resting fine now. She has a compression fracture on L1 and a hairline fracrure on one of the sacrum (sp?) vertebrea. Both are stable and in place and are not expected to need surgery. She was in a great deal of pain last night, but it was well managed by the EMT's and hospital staff. She was stabilized and x rayed at Lake Placid Hospital and then transfered to Saranac Hospital for a Cat Scan. That's where the sacrum fracture showed up. She was admitted there. By this mornin she was able to smile a lot and as of mid afternoon, the torso brace man came and fitted her. She felt a lot better just having that on. (perfect posture always feels good). She'll get one last look by the doc in the morning and then we'll head home as long as everything is fine. All her vital responses are perfect so far. She will be in the brace for 6 weeks and then PT.

Thank you to all of you for your swift help, compassion, encouragement and support!

Lee
-------------

I really hope the best for her.

Rob

I was really impressed by all of the skating doctors who rushed over to the 32 rink when the medical emergency announcement was made in the 80 rink.

Oh, I'm so sorry - how disappointing and frightening - hope it's an easy, uneventful recovery.

I also heard about this third hand too and was quite surprised. (Of course, I wasn't sure who I first heard this from but I was when I heard about it.) Since Rob mentioned the L1 and maybe L2 fracture, it would explain why I've heard that she said that she couldn't move her legs when it happened.

Lovepairs: Get well soon.

I wondered about the commotion, then when Dr. Larry told me, my heart dropped. I think everyone's did. Speedy recovery and well wishes to lovepairs.

Andrea,

I am so sorry that this happened. I heard about it backstage at the 1980 rink and was mortified. I'm so glad that the prognosis is so good and that your spirits are up.

Wishing you a speedy recovery,

Frank

LovePairs

Hi Everyone

When the Championship Ladies were on the ice, I checked my watch and knew all the Championship Pairs were on the ice for their 20-minute warm up. I think I was actually having a hot-dog when I heard, "Medical Emergency 1932 Rink" on the overhead.

Knowing so many of my good friends and colleagues were on the ice, I just dropped everything and ran as fast as I could to do what I could do, which is how I made it to my dear friend so quickly. There was nothing any of us could really do except give support and comfort, check to make sure the EMS team was doing the correct things and help get her to the hospital as quickly as possible. I am glad Andrea was comforted by having a familiar hand to hold.

I was able to speak to her on Sunday, and yes, all the information in other posts was relayed to me by Andrea and Lee themselves. I have the utmost confidence in her strength to recover completely.

Let us not forget to support her partner Lee as well. What he must be feeling is beyond my imagination, and I am a pair skater! I wish him piece of mind and freedom from the natural guilt associated with an accident like this.

Andrea wanted me to invite everyone to visit the Adult Pair Skating website and make donations by buying stamps and to help defray (sic?) any costs for the site.

Stay safe and well, everyone.

Oh Andrea,

I am really so sorry to hear of your injury.

I was so looking forward to cheering you on like you did for me when I did my figures test up there in August of 2006.

All the best my friend.....heal fast and heal well!
