Hey all, I'm looking to buy some tracksuit style pants for skating. My only requirements are that they be quite fitting (no flares!!!), warm and stretchy. and not too expensive.

Brand doesn't really matter...they're really all the same. Any decent ballet supply store will carry pants like that.

Well I know some that met most of your requirements. I use the mid-weight mountaineering leggings from North Face, very fitted, very warm pretty much indestructible, I have yet to destroy a pair and I have been using them for 5 years. I generally buy a women's medium or a men's small I am 5'9" with a 34" inseam they are usually only 32" long but fit my small thigh. If you can find them during spring they might be on sale. They are about $75 each.


I have also started to wear the pants from Lu Lu Lemon they are great and long so they cover your heel. They will shorten them or in my case you can get a tall 36" inseam.

TJ Maxx or TK Maxx or whatever they're called in the UK (I get confused between them both) is great for cheap tracksuit bottoms. They've generally got a good selection in of relatively fitted bottoms. I also go looking for stretchy ones, so I can get them over boots on test days when i've got to stay warm for as long as possible.

Seconding -- I only wear UA leggings, though my rink's warm enough for the regular ones.

REI has nice stretch fleece leggings designed for winter running that work really well in a really cold rink. They last pretty good too.

They're not overly bulky, so can still tell line of extension (at least my coach can).

Ugh, no! (But thanks for looking ) No velvet and I hate that bootcut look, I want them tight so I stop catching my blade in the loose material. I want them to go over the heel of my boot.

What about the sixo pant from the same site (page 7 though) it goes over the back of the boot and costs $48. Though that's expensive enough for me that I'd just pay the $70 to get the ones from seku.

Well the price is right! I might have to see how these look on me. I need to move on from my Nike atheltic pants (boys- I can't wear adult pants if there are zippers on the end) to something that shows my legs, but it's a pain to always have to wear a dress.

I'm just not sure if I can pull off the legging look!

That over the boot thing is on a couple of their pants; but, they do any length and leg fitting that you want, as they are all made custom.

yes, they're expensive; however, my son swears by them, as do most of the serious skaters around here (especially the guys) - and I love them as a mum because they are custom (meaning they fit like a guy's pants should, especially a guy with a skater's butt and thighs); they're indestructible, and they fit properly. Plus great service.

Those Sixo pants BTW are fantastic, and they hold a rhinestone really well if you want to make them flashy on the cheap.

I got some kids XL today- they were on sale for $3.48. I would have gotten 2 but there was only one pair in stock! I still really want some of the Seku ones, but those cost $66 more!


WOW! Those are even more expensive than the ones from savvy skater (which is where the picture is from). What kind of material are they? Very thin, warm gold?

Their pants are a two-way stretch material:

"Our stretch material is a strong 100% nylon knit. The two-way stretch provides maximum ease and comfort necessary for complex skating routines. "

It's incredibly durable, is warm, and wears forever. If you check out Jeff Buttle et al's training videos and pics, you'll generally see the BlueSkys logo on the pants. According to my son, they're warm enough for an often brutally cold arena, but, breathe.

The main cost is because they're custom. So, you send them the measurements, they cut them for you, and they use the colours you choose. His coach likes them because they're designed for skaters, the line is easy to see, and they look professional when he's in practice sessions or at clinics and seminars, meaning that he gives a good impression.

On a boy who is hell on wheels on clothes, they give us a good year of so of use (he outgrows them way before they're worn out). As a comparison, in a stock Jerry or Mondor pants, they were worn thru on knees or butt in about 4 months, plus, they were always too tight in the butt and thighs and too loose in the waist. Big Benefit: they put those stupid straps on the bottom of the pants for me, unlike other brands where I have to sew them on myself (God Bless Them ); plus the ankle zippers give a great line into the boot, and eliminates the issue of flapping pants catching in a blade.

So, I figure, I'm saving cash by not having to replace them often; and, because they custom make them, there's no issue with line and they do the adjust for growth the way I ask (I usually get an inch to an inch and a 1/2 on the length, 3/4 inch in the hip and waist ...) And I'm Buying Canadian, which is important to me.

They're one of those "I spend so I save" choices. Now, for my daughter, it's different, because, frankly, I can find a lot more options for girls skating attire than for boys. It's a size of the market thing.

No hijack- it's a great to hear why you like them. Sorry I came off rude- I was a bit snotty, but it was meant as a joke.

I didn't read far enough to see they are custom- and I agree, you get what you pay for. I bet the $4 pants I bought yesterday only last me a year- and I'm not hard on my skating pants (they'll fade in the wash). Thanks for the great review of those pants!

We have had both Circo leggings from Target and a custom warm up suit from Blue Skies. Both serve different purposes. The Circo leggings do fade in the wash quickly and would not hold up to the workouts that my skater is doing now. They will also get holes in them if you pull them down over the hooks of your boots. They were fine when she was little, though. The Blue Skies products are gorgeous products, and have held up through years and years of use, although her warm up suit is not worn for working out--it is just worn over clothing at competitions. I am sure, though, that their legggings would be a great quality product, just like their warm-ups.
