I think I know all of your spies.

And who cares about skating? I'm more concerned about the little project skaternum and I are hatching.

Dude, you're starting to scare me. You're flying planes, but you can't read the announcements for a few skating competitions?? They're not written in DaVinci code, you know. They're pretty easy to follow!

Flying today is 70% paper work and 30% flying. what I have to read every week to keep up with it is a common complaint amongst all pilots.
As far as the announcements are concerned for competitions, I guess I really should read the whole thing at times. Iv alway's been bad at that. ... Im to busy having fun on the ice every day I skate ( about 3 hours a day) when Im off. I just sign up and go.

BTW, to anyone who hasn't been to Ashburn rink since the middle of December, the traffic pattern on Rt 28 (Sully Road) for the Waxpool Road intersection has changed.

There is now no longer a stoplight at the Waxpool Road & Rt 28 intersection. When driving NORTH from the Dulles Toll Road on Rt 28, instead of making a left-hand turn at the light, one has to stay in the right hand lane, and immediately AFTER the overpass for Waxpool Road/Church Road, there is an exit ramp that will take you up and around onto Waxpool Road going west.

When driving south on Rt 28 from Dulles Town Center Mall (or the Courtyard Inn), there is an exit ramp on the RIGHT, just past where the stoplight used to be for Commercial Drive (i.e. just past the CarMax and the Maserati dealer).

Hope this helps. Don't know if the rink has updated their online directions.

BTW, can't miss me... I'm one of the judges' hospitality crew...working hard to ensure the judges have enough coffee, soup and other tasty treats.

Hi Ross,

I am still at Silver (both FS & MIF), but will be skating Gold Free and Gold Compulsories in DC. I have been working on my Juv MIF and Juv Free tests, so I haven't had any time for Gold MIF. I am not planning on doing Sectionals/Nationals this year, but am opting to save my money and do the ISU competition instead.

See you in DC!

Kelton

Nova, (looking at your signature), one of the best things for crossovers is pair skating - something I tend to look at in pairs even more than the elements - so keep practicing. I often do this with the little ones in lessons and alternate who leads. When I started with my last partner we spent lots of time on his stroking, and even took a couple lessons from a dance coach.
Enjoy

Flo, I'm responding for NoVa here... about the crossovers. Two of the coaches who've worked on them are our previous and current pair coaches! (And you know our current coach [Nick] is obsessed with good stroking.) Whether we follow through or not, well, it's tough to work on pair stroking exercises in anything less than an almost-completely empty session.

Yes; I've gotten a little better at this thanks to pairs. At one instance in our program, we are almost at a standstill, and I have to use some edge power to generate speed into our next element.
Also, my back crossovers are much better than my forward ones (they feel that way, at least). I think of Doug Dorsey in "The Cutting Edge" when he is first learning to skate forward with those "toepick things" and he is bobbing all over the place. After all these years, I still feel like that. <sigh>

If you had watched my previous singles program, you'd have noticed that I've practically taken out all the forward skating to obviate the need for forward crossovers! When the forward thing happens, I immediately mohawk or 3-turn to go backwards. Um, okay, i need to address this problem.

Forward Crossovers Anonymous, anyone?

Yes, ex-coach seems to go out of his way to come up with new crossover exercises for me. I feel flattered (that he goes out of his way to help me) and frustrated (that my body/hips/leg just don't get it and that I look horribly ridiculous and ungraceful).

I guess I also feel like it doesn't matter: No one is watching the silly guy in the pair team. I'm just the 'support staff.' I mean, who looks at a rose's stem?--it's the petals that count.

Ha! I'm watching the pair guys!
I remember Nick was great with the excercises. Something you always have with pairs is initial differences in strengths. My last partner was a great skater, but with us, my crossovers and edges were stronger, so we also had to do some magical crossover illusions! What we also did was to take most of his forwards out - but you also want to show the judges forward skating. One thing we choreographed was a great death spiral entrance. Me fw crossovers and him backwards - so we were face to face ccw. Then he lifted up his left arm (lifting my right, and I slipped below his arm right into a forward inside death spiral.

Keep practicing! They'll be great!

Oh, Ross Ross Ross. The competition is at the Ashburn, VA, rink, which is outside of DC. It's hosted by the Washington Figure Skating Club. It's just easier to write 'DC' then to type out 'the Northern Virginia rink that is situated west of Washington, DC.' I think it is, anyway.

Oh, my my my...
Well, one thing's for certain, I have new music. I spent the latter part of my workday splicing music. (Unfortunately, I just played it at home and the cuts sound a bit rough.)
