Annual Skating Angels?

Dani's thread gave me an idea about something we could do if there's enough interest. Since skating is such an expensive sport and many people do know skaters in need of equipment what if every year we helped out a skater with a little fund raiser? Not sure how we'd decide which skater but I'm sure someone on this board is more familiar with fund raising than I and can give some good pointers.

Just wondering if there's an interest in doing this?

I like the idea--I really wanted to help out last time, but was too broke. The only dilemma I see is in deciding who's 'worthy' enough, or between more than one or two, but maybe that can be worked out. Good idea, though!

Sounds like a great idea. Question though- does the skater have to be a certain level? Like national or international, or possibly be just an up-and-coming skater? Whats the criteria for the skater nominee?

This is about need and catching our heart by the persons love for skating, definately not someone elite. At least that would be how I would see it!

Hugs!

The choice would have to be based on need and not skating skill.

In Justine's case, the family had no income because the father was unable to work because of his cancer.

choice

I agree it should be need based and not an "elite" skater. It could take the form of equipment or ice time or any other thing the skater needs to keep skating or to progress to the next level. I'm not that close with any of the skaters at my rinks, I'm not there enough, so right now I don't have a nominee.

next step

So we have a few people interested so now we have to find a candidate. Maybe I'll start another thread so people can nominate someone?
