video clip

of my coach (posting with his permission). It's from 6 years ago though, when he still was Junior level.

please right-click here and save to your harddrive

The file is a bit big, just over 21+ MB, but I promise it's worth watching.

Oh, the poor guy! At least he seemed to have a good sense of humor about it. Did he borrow someone else's skates, or was he out of it?

He was out they let him go to sectionals though, as the previous year he was on international team (so I guess I should say he was granted a "bye"?).

The worst is when he goes over to the ref, & forgets & tries to stop........ Is that Jonathon Hunt as in Handy & Hunt?

Oh no -- the poor guy!!

He handled it very well -- I have to admit that I couldn't stop laughing when he goes to try to use his foot to do a T-stop and there is no blade and he falls!! It's as good as a Kurt Browing comedy routine!!!

That was a beautiful 3lutz too!

Hey does your coach still plan on competing in pairs sometimes in the future, or has he retired from eligible competition?

Well, I doubt he wants anyone to say "poor guy" - Jonathon seems to get a kick out of making people laugh with this video

phoenix: yes, it's Jonathon Hunt as in Handy & Hunt, or Don & Hunt as it was last several years.

I laughed hard at that "stop", too - but today he told me that he didn't forget, just tried to slow himself down with the boot (the front plate was still attached). I have to admit I was a little dissapointed with this explanation LOL!

AFAIK, he isn't sure yet... Sometimes I sense in him desire to come back, and other days he seems to think that he won't be able to do it on the competitive level again, or perhaps doubts that it may not be worth it health-wise.

Oh my God! The poor guy! I found it hysterical to which I feel guilty because I shouldn't laugh at other people's misfortunes. He certainly handled it extremely well. I can imagine just how disappointed he must have felt.

So, there *is* a purpose to learning those disgusting one-foot slaloms (which I think the rest of the world might callpower pulls) !!!

The power pulls were great. I expected him to ham it up w/some footwork. That t-stop wipeout was completely unexpected and hilarious!

I feel the same way as Nicki lol ... its funny and yet ... ugh! Being helped off the ice on one foot is unfortunately familiar to me because I hurt my ankle twice on landing during practise...
But otherwise... that T-stop fall... it was so horrible and funny at the same time because its like I was thinking in my mind oh nonono! Dont do that! and he does it anyways >< and falls.

Renata--
Thanks for posting this video! I just now watched it after seeing flippet and Joan mention it in a different thread. It's funny to watch but also I felt bad for him since it was the very beginning of his program! I thought it was very considerate of him to look for the other pieces of the blade (or the screws?) before going over to the referree.

OMG wow. Now did he lose a screw somewhere? Because it looks like he was kind of looking for it by the judges stand. That looked painful, but the crowd popped at the end for him it was really cute.

It looked to me like part of the blade stayed on a the rest broke off.... but what is the real story about the blade? Inquiring minds want to know!

Oh my goodness. That made me laugh so hard. I suppose he could have gotten very hurt- in which case the situation wouldn't be funny at all, but since he was okay, and took it in good humor (loved the power pulls!) it really was just hilarious.

And the T-stop! OH MY! Poor guy... thank him for giving you permission to share!

That's pretty much the story...

(I don't remember well now, but I think he said those blades were not really made for high level freestyle)

This reminded me of Derrick Delmore at (I think it was 1996) Nationals when his blade actually broke between the stanchions during one of his programs. I felt so bad for him, since he had had a great season and was terrific in practice and the crowd really supported him. He also had to do powerpulls to get off the ice once he realized what had happened.
