from Tasha:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4659093.stm

"Thought I'd better let you know that I'm ok. It's chaos here. 9 bombs are reported to have gone off so far on the tube (underground) and 1 possibly 2 buses blown up. 16 reported dead and 90 casualties from 1 of the explosions.

We are on major alert for casualties."

We're fine; I was sleeping late and knew nothing about it until my daughter rang up. I think my husband can get a train home - we were wondering whether he was going to have to cycle all the way (17 miles!), but services have resumed in our area.

I am not going to dance club tonight, but that is mostly because I'm tired, also I'm not sure what the bus services are like. I think they're okay, but wouldn't swear to it.

But, going to and from Alexandra Palace last night we were driving right past where those buses exploded .... too awful....

Mrs. Redboots, glad to know you and yours are ok. I'm waiting to hear from a relative.
From what I hear the emergency response has been very effective and the people are quite calm and together.

We are outside the greater London area so we are OK but son told me that he and his friends had been thinking of going into London today to see a play they need to watch for drama next year (since they are off school having finished exams). I am very thankful they changed their minds. daughter's friend at rink had a number of school friends in central London on a school trip but they were escorted back to their coach to go home by police who did a great job today under the most awful circumstances as did all emergency services and hospital staff.

Another Brit checking in. I'm fine, I don't live in London, but everyone's pretty affected. Everyone knows someone who's there, or a friend of a friend, but everyone I know is ok. One of my sister's friends lives there, and apparently she left the tube at one of the bombed stations about 15 minutes before it happened, and saw the emergency services going in the other direction wit the sirens blaring when she was walking to work. And my cousin used to live in London when she was younger, and the parents of someone she knows were on the exploded bus!!! Apparently they're both alive and ok though. They were lucky. My boyfriend's got family that live there too, but they're ok.

I can't believe how evil some people can be. I was really sickened today. I had to go into work for about 3pm (I work in a hotel) and the atmosphere was so strange - no music on, everyone was so much quieter than normal, and everyone was just staring up at the big TV screen where I think the news was on. It felt really weird.

Is everyone accounted for now?

My heart goes out to you all. Non-Brits, please do not cancel any UK travel plans. Annabel & Robert's visit to NYC soon after 9/11 was a great source of comfort.

My brother and his wife flew into London tonight for their wedding anniversary. What is really an awful coincidence was the 9/11 attack was on our anniversary.

I'm a few miles out of London so am safe. I don't go into London much. My sister works there though and I was extremely worried yesterday but luckily she avoided the blasts and made it home safely last night. She's not going to work today which I think is probably wise under the circumstances.

Much of the Tube is running again today, although not all, and buses are working normally. However, the roads were noticeably quieter this morning, and buses (unsurprisingly) emptier. Actually, that was so at 7.30 when I went skating - less so when I came home again.

Yes, they said they'd get as much back to normal as possible. I guess my sister didn't have any bookings today so she had no real need to go in, although knowing her she probably has gone in after all anyway!
