Figure Skating Sayings

Hey... This year during the skating season, I wanted to put a new saying up on our bulletin board every couple of days... I have a few, but not enough to last for a whole year, please leave all of your sayings that you live by, or have just heard.

The only place practice comes before success is in the dictionary.

The only time you ever fail is when you quit trying.

No one ever reached their goals looking down.

If you're scared, be brave and try it anyways.

Always believe in yourself.

In competition, medals and trophies are only bonus

The worst falls happen over the stupid stuff

*If you shoot for the moon, and fall short, you'll be in the stars*

*adversity causes some people to break... others to break records*

* It’s not necessarily the amount of time you spend at practice that counts; it’s what you put into the practice*

*Only those who dare to fail greatly, achieve greatly*

*Winning isn't everything.. wanting to is*

*You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them.*

*Sweat plus sacrifice equals success. *

*The will to win is important, but the will to prepare is vital. *

*We must either find a way or make one. *

*Ask not what your teammates can do for you.Ask what you can do for your teammates. *

*The difference between the impossibl eand the possible lies in a man’s determination *

*If you can believe it, the mind can achieve it. *

*Winners never quit and quitters never win. *

*Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear -not absence of fear.*

*Don’t look back. Something might be gaining on you*

*A ship in the harbor is safe. But that’s not what ships are built for. *

*The best inspiration is not to outdo others, but to outdo ourselves.*

* The world is full of willing people, some willing to work, the others willing to let them. *

*To be prepared is half the victory. *

*7 days without skating makes one WEAK*

Down, Up, Down, Up

Next time, don't go so far down after you go up. (something I've thought of when I hear coaches say down up down and end up falling)

This is figure skating not male catching, roate your hips under.

Success is getting up one more time than you've fallen.

You can't do it if you don't try.

I truly believe that God patted himself on the back when he created figure skating.

If it ain't broke, make it better. If it's broke, fix it.

If your scared, take a deep breath, and do it anyway.

"It is never too late to become what you might have been."

"Practice does not make perfect; perfect practice makes perfect."

"If you practice badly, you'll perform badly really well."

"A man must love a thing very much if he does it not only without hope of success but without hope of doing it very well at all." (This is a very bad paraphrase of a great quote; maybe someone else here can give a more accurate rendition.)

A man must love a thing very much if he not only practices it without any hope of fame and money, but even practices it without any hope of doing it well. - (apparently written by G. K. Chesterton)

This saying is all wrong... The moon is much closer than the stars, so technically it should be

"If you shoot for the stars and fall short, you'll still land on the moon"

I learnt it as "If you aim for the stars, you might well reach the top of the tree!"
