Music SOMEBODY should skate to

Well my wife hates it but I absolutely love the Obrigado Brazil CD's by Yo-Yo Ma. By the way there is a live CD and a seperate studio CD - they are completely different yet have the same name - I liked both.
The music is the rather dramatic cello work combined with the great latin rythms. FWIW

Doesn't it drive you crazy when you find an awesome piece of music and can't find anyone who will skate to it?

I'm not good enough yet (I'm not worthy, not worthy!) and won't be for a very very very very long time, but I've been dying to see someone skate to Track 12 (I think it's track 12-- Logan and Rogue's song) on the X-Men 1 CD. From the second that I heard that in the theatre, I could already picture someone skating or dancing to it!

Team Arthritis, that CD sounds like fun.

Emberchyld I was considering that piece to skate to for artistic but decided it was a bit too difficult for me to intepret...
At the moment, don't really have any pieces that I wish someone to skate to but nobody has... on the other hand there are music that I wished more people would skate to hehe.

You know what really annoys me is the disallowance of vocals in competition music. I would direly love to skate to Nightwish's "Sleeping Sun" in competition someday. I have yet to find any acoustic music that inspires me to skate as much.

So skate to it for an Interp program!

Lovely piece of music Casey. Who's it by?

Something to be said for dance choices after all! After all, we're not restricted to accoustic music (OTOH, it does need a definite "dance" beat. And let's not go near the ISU compulsory music... )

Could you fiddle with your piece and delete the actual vocals while leaving the voice as an instrument?

Nightwish, as mentioned.

Well, that particular piece doesn't sound appropriate to dance to me...it's distinctly freestylish, but that's just my own tastes...

(I do have favorites for other disciplines, for instance "Faraway" by Apocalyptica seems to demand pairs elements while "Alegria" by Kirsty MacColl seems rather fitted to a dance.)

I can't, though I'm sure for enough money, it could be recomposed. So you know, once I get up to Olympic level, I might just consider that option. Just another 326 years to go!

I did read somewhere that at least in Canada, you can use music containing vocals, there's just a minor deduction for it. Is that also the case with USFSA and ISU, and if so, what's the deduction? Of course it's probably best not to push the judges as such...

I cut most of the music at our rink. I have the professional software. Everyone asks but it is IMPOSSIBLE to remove the vocals only from the music. Kind of like removing a face from a picture - you can cover it up but you can't really make it go away.

If you are into dreamy music, check out this sight- celestial voices:

Yesterday I was listening to a tango CD by Yo Yo Ma! There's one on there that would be awesome for pairs- it has two lines that start in a (what's that word?! Like when you sing Row row row your boat...), and then come together later in the song. Coool.

I found completely by accident "Tom Sawyer Suite Op. 27". Very Americana. I can see someone like Evan Lysachek or Ryan Bradley skating to it.

I'm sorry I wasn't terribly clear - I didn't mean Sleeping Sun would necessarily work as a dance piece - I was merely commenting that dancers don't have the "no lyrics" limitation. (Mind you, what with having to find a piece with a definite dance beat, if lyrics were forbidden as well, then our choices would be severely curtailed! )

I was going to try that as an interp sometime in the near future, but you can if you would like.
