Hi everyone!

Tonight at 5:30 I take my pre-bronze freestyle and prelim dances! I am excited and scared! ;-)

Wish me luck!

GOOD LUCK, DANIELLE !!!!!

Excited is good.

A little scared is good, too. It keeps the adrenaline flowing and makes you sharper.

If the butterflies get to be too much, get out your jump rope. It will help settle you down and warm up your muscles.

GO GET 'EM !!!!

Wow, I bet that would be a great idea! I may do that. I was pretty shaky during my ISI competition, so I expect the same here. As long as I get through my jumps, I should be fine. As for my dances, I have to have a strong enough swing roll for the corner sequences.

Hugs and thanks!!

Good luck! And don't wear yourself out warming up! My coach made me jog around the rink for a few minutes and he stretched me gently for my spirals a few minutes before the warm-up. And just focus on one thing at a time!

And have fun! (hard to do, but what the heck)

Pat

Good Luck!!

Smile, stand up straight and when you think you have your knees bent, bend a bit more.

I will! ;-) When I have had problems before, it has been with weak shaky knees. For some reason, I am worried about my toe loop and salchow. So much so that I am thinking about wimping out and doing a waltz and half flip!

The butterflies have really hit, big time!

Don't start jumping rope yet!!!!

Only one thing to do........
bring in the big guns........
Go get a chocolate candy bar.

Better yet, a warm glass of hot chocolate. (and a couple of Ibuprofin)

C'mon skaters!!! What are some of the diversionary tactics you use when you're nervous before a test or competition?

Take a walk?
Read a magazine?
Call a friend?
Take a nap?

Remember the dance music gets progressively better with each level. That should be a good incentive to pass - you don't have to listen to it anymore if you do. Unfortunately, I can still hear that preliminary dance music in my head though, lol. Good luck!

I did it!!!!!

I passed with flying colors it seems. I stumbled on my blues, but that didn't matter after I skated a good 2nd and 3rd pattern.

This was cool: One of the judges explained to me that they cut me off after 2 patterns of the Dutch Waltz because it was clear I passed. They made me skate all three patterns of the tango because they really enjoyed how I skated it!!

I was a little tense on my jumps, but it wasn't a problem.

One funny thing, my coach had told me that my saving grace on my spiral (by far my worst element) was that I have good control with no wobbling. The comment on my test form for the spiral was: "good control" ;-)

Happy hugs!!!!

[quote:34ed0d8a4b="melanieuk"]Great!
When's the next test? [/quote:34ed0d8a4b]

My coach had me fill out a goals sheet, and I put on there having my bronze moves and freestyle tests scheduled within two months. Here in the US, we have to start testing moves after September 2nd, so I will have to take the bronze moves. The only sticking point I have is to do a backspin and sitspin. I am learning the sitspin.

I am not sure when I will be ready to test the next dance level, but it shouldn't be too long. That test has the fiesta, the swing, and the cha-cha.

It is the next morning and I am still excited! I am subjecting everyone at work to the video ;-)

Hugs!
