Dallas AN reports

I thought we could have a thread for AN reports and such.

We're here! It's great to see so many familiar faces. Rob and I have been together almost 3 months, and it has flown by, and here we are.

I'm here too!

Had 2 practices today and both went well. The 2nd was better than the first.

One of the 2 rinks has hardly any seating area which is going to make it tough for spectators. I'm glad I'm not competing in that rink. I do better with an audience.

I've seen a lot of familiar faces too! I'm looking forward to seeing everyone skate. Hopefully the schedules wont change too much for the rest of the event!

Oh, how I wish I were there..... was so spoilt last year, seeing you all, seeing so much of it! Have a wonderful, wonderful time. Flo, I'm longing to see your and Rob's routine at the Mountain Cup! Patty - I did love your last year's Interp!

Hi Patty, I'm getting into Dallas tomorrow around lunchtime - how easy/hard has it been to get on practice ice?

Happy Skating!

I had my practice ice already reserved. However, the practice ice line was very short and most of the sessions yesterday were not full. I don't think it will be a problem.

Hey Debbie, thanks! I'm having a blast at my 1st adult natls. The ice is quite cold and hard, but it was smooth. The outlet mall connected to the rink is great with so many good stores. I've already bought some expensive hard-to-find Graham Webb conditioner and a baby sweater on sale at Off 5th for a friend. The Spring Hill Suites is great and very new-looking and modern. Gotta watch gold ladies!

Hey it looks like the 1st placers for masters pairs are from here - I've probably seen them at some point, but I have no idea who they are! Sheesh I guess I shouldn't be so antisocial...

The Masters Pairs team from Seattle was great. Actually all 3 teams did a great job. We had practice is with two of them yesterday.

Our practice went OK today. We were at the other rink - Valley Ranch. We found a creative way of getting there.

Hopefully, we can pull it all together for our 12:25 pm skate. Especially since we were rechoreographing this afternoon!

I've got my fingers and toes crossed. (Bunions do help with this!)

I'm actually back home already...gotta get back to work tomorrow. Skatingatty had a GREAT skate and looked gorgeous. The ice is definitely hard! It's the kid of ice you feel like you're skating on TOP of, instead of being able to get into it. I am so bummed I had to leave. The whole experience, although short, was amazing. The atmosphere in the rink was so full of energy. I was able to catch up with skating friends who I hadn't seen in a while. The whole group of Silver I ladies chatted it up with each other while waiting to get on the ice. I know it took my mind off skating for a bit....what an awesome group we had! GOOD LUCK and skate great to y'all who are still there.

Splat!

My bronze IV skate was yesterday and "splat' sums it up! My warm up went really well and I felt relaxed. I was first in the skating order and as soon as the music started, the nerves kicked in. I did the loop loop and lutz, which I was most worried about, but right after the lutz, I realized I was behind in the music and apparently stiffened up upon trying to enter my sit spin. Splat! Everyone started cheering, in an encouraging way. It was really great. I got up and thought, "I've got to do a sit spin". So with no entry, I try to go into a sit spin and went down again, this time a full body sprawl on the ice, belly down. More cheering - so I laughed it off and got up and finished my program. I got in the spirals, which were shaky considering my recent mishaps, and then a flip. The music was almost over, so I did my second planned spin, and then I redid the sit spin, thinking I needed to get two spins in there. I left out 4 planned jumps and completed only 4 jumps. So I came in 8th (of 8), but was heartened to see that three judges placed me above 8th. I'm disappointed, of course, that I didn't put my best out there, but I really really appreciated the audience. They were great!

I don't know who any of you are - so if you saw the Bronze ladies IV group A yesterday, introduce yourselves to me!

I still have interpretive on Friday and it is a fun program to do. I think nerves will be less of a problem for it

Joan

Sorry to hear your skate didn't go as well as you planned, Joan, but remember that just qualifying for AN is a huge accomplishment (at least, from where this Bronze moves-challenged skater sits), no matter where you finish. Be proud of yourself for getting out there and coming back with the sit spin at the end. Enjoy your Interp!

Hi everyone! It has been great seeing friends like Sexxy Skater and Flutzilla and IcT and Flo and Stormy and NovaSkater and ... well the list goes on!

I had a decent skate except I flubbed my camel after leaving a great one on the warmup - oh well, I was JGE (Just Good Enough) so I get to skate another day! Yeah!

I am quite sad that a lot of my friends aren't here! :-( It doesn't seem right without JenSkates, Skaternum, and Becca G!

Dani

ps) Thanks Mel and Wendy!

results posting

I have been very delighted that they are posting results on the USFS as they go. However a couple of the Gold results are hiccuping - if you click on Gold Ladies 4&5 for example, you get sent back to the USFS home page! eek.

Can't wait to see the actual results!

Yay for you! That darned camel again? I feel your pain. Remember LP in 2004? A camel was nowhere to be found when I needed one.

Thanks. It doesn't seem right to me either. I'm shooting for 2008. See you there in Silver, eh?

Actually, the pages are there. Whoever is doing the pages just isn't aware that "&" is not URL friendly... just replace the "&" with "%26" (the hex equivalent of &)

For example, for Gold 1&2, the result page is:

http://www.usfigureskating.org/event...roups1%262.htm

or spelled out:

ETA: I've e-mailed Laura Fawcett about the problem. Hopefully the links on the webpage will be fixed soon.

Wow - crazy ordinals in Gold 1/2! Good job, climbsk8 and icecatepairs! Good luck in Champ Gold tomorrow, icecate!

Congrats to sexyskates (and good luck Friday)! And mdvask8r got some pretty good ordinals. Good luck in Interp, guys!

Hey Joan, one of the qualifiers in your group - Wendy Bauer - is an astro professor at my college. She and I were on a student-faculty committee together for a year - I wonder if she'd remember me. I'm not sure if she skated then, but I know she's done AN for at least 3 or 4 years now. Hopefully, she'll keep going so that when I (finally) get to AN, I can re-introduce myself!

Edited to add a congrats to PattyP and coskater64!

She knits sweaters for little stuffed bears that she throws on the ice. They're pretty neat - I got one from her last year. People throw her skeins of yarn instead of animals so she'll have supplies for the next year! I mailed my skein to a friend to throw to her, since I wouldn't be there this year.
