choctaw jumps!

Has anybody here ever done these?
They look like fun. I was watching my tape of Cup of Russia, when I spotted one in Johnny Weir's short program. I ran the tape back a couple of times to watch it in slow motion. Then, I also spotted one in Sandhu's long program. Both of them did it from FI on one foot to BO on another.

I'm sure these little jumps are much harder to do than they look....

I think you're talking about "flying choctaws." They are quite fun, and I think most skaters find them far easier than regular choctaws. In Canada, these are in an exercise in Junior Silver Skills.

No, these looked different than flying choctaws. There was definitely more knee bend before and after, more time/height in the air, and much deeper edging. Similar hang time to a ballet jump or other unlisted small jumps.

Weir's jump came in the middle of a footwork sequence and I think he started with free leg extended in front, then after the jump, the new free leg crossed in front pretty soon after he landed. IIRC, Sandhu's jump came in footwork after he did a camel spin toward one end of the rink, but I could be wrong about that.

Thanks for posting this, Joan! The jump I'm talking about comes at about 2:28, during his straight line footwork. He jumps from RFI to LBO.

Hmmm, definitely still a flying choctaw in my books. The amount of height and edge depth doesn't change the fact that it's a jump from a FI to BO edge, still making it a FC.
