Adult Nationals 2007 Schedule Update

Please forward to everyone you know going to ANs . . .

The referee has told the LOC that all events will indeed be taking place on the days that were listed on the tentative schedule. So make your hotel/plane reservations with confidence!

When we get actual times for events, they will be updated on the Adult Nationals website. (http://www.adultnationals2007.org)

Keep in mind that we have a large turnout for Chicago this year (wheee!!), therefore some of the days will run very long. So you may be competing very early or very late in the day. However, we thought this preferable to moving events to different days, since some skaters have already made their travel plans.

Cheers!

Thanks for the info, Alison.

(And so much for the Adult Nationals chorus, "It's getting smaller."
Which goes to show, when AN is in an easy-to-reach location, the numbers will be higher.)

And speaking of AN locations, I know of at least a half dozen people or more who tell me that they don't go to AN every year, but if it's ever at Lake Placid, they'll go...

Alison, thanks for the update and thanks for keeping events on the days planned!

Some of us intend to go to AN, no matter where it's at, once we are able to!

I'm dying for it to be at Lake Placid. I have serious anxiety issues with planes. I'm really hoping for 08!

Glad to hear that turnout is strong this year! Perhaps that will inspire organizers to stick to well known locations.

I hate to say it, but I am kind of Meh on Lake Placid. I was there once for a synchro competition and it's a gorgeous location and really beautiful, but it's not someplace I'd want to go again and again. I like to go to warmer climates in the wintertime, that's probably why!

I'm meh on LP too, only because I've been to every AN and it's been there four times already. I will continue to go no matter where it is, of course, but I like it better when it's somewhere I've never been ... like CHICAGO!!!

Well, I've gone to every AN since I started skating again, so...since 2002, it's nice when they have the event in a big city but I'll always go regardless of where it is...even though southern california would be nice.

I love Lake Placid. It's like a vacation when we have Nationals there. We go for a week and rent a house on the lake. I'm looking forward to returning. It would also be fun to have one local so I don't have to travel. Other than that, I'd love to go to Seattle, Maine or maybe Orlando (warmth sounds good right now).

I'm for warm weather places too! Easier on the joints!!!

Yes, I would love it to be in Southern California too, since it's much cheaper to fly in...

It's not hard to put a bid together. You just have to find someone to do it. It was my idea to have it in Chicago, and I wasn't even a member of a midwest club yet since I had just moved there from Maryland. But I got the right group of adults together who I knew would be interested and we approached the clubs, who were also interested (and I switched to a Chicago club, lol!). Then we all just took a section of the bid and got it done. So if you're a member of a SoCal club, just take the initiative. I'm sure the adult skating community would love to go there in April!

I asked the same question about our No. Cal rinks too, doubletoe. The answer I got was it's a combination of not having more than one sheet of ice and "club politics" (particularly with the ONE rink that can handle an event such as AN.) Whether that's true or not... well, I'm not gonna bother to speculate.

But short of having it in my neck of the woods, I would LOVE having it in So. Cal.!!!

Yes, the hotels are filling up. The AmeriSuites deadline has been extended to March 19th (just got that tip yesterday and have to update the website) and they have room, so try them. But many of the hotels are full, or almost full!

I doubt it. I'd call them, but the rink is in a residential area (with a huge park in front!)

Does the rink have to have two ice surfaces or just one, but with another rink nearby? Come to think of it, we held Pacific Southwest Regionals at our rink with just one ice surface, and they've definitely got more entries than Adult Nationals. Hmmm. . . !

Oh, and going back to the original topic of this thread, does anyone know if there is going to be a qualifying round for Gold III?

If there is no QR, do we skate on Wednesday (when the QR's are scheduled) or Thursday (when the FR is scheduled)?

I'm staying at the Country Inn. I think I remember reading that it was 1.8 miles from the rink.

Ditto--does anyone know if there will be a qual. round for Bronze II?

Two in one building with a third for practice ice across the parking lot. There must be two rinks is the requirement
