Music

Is the song "Gabriel's Oboe" (from the movie "The Mission") overused in competition? I love it, but i don't want the judges to be sick of it.

Use it if you want to and love it!!! I don't care if music is overdone during competition, if its something you feel extremely passionate about and want to skate to it, why not? That's how I look at it.

For me, I didn't want to skate to what everyone else seemed to pick at first. But I do understand why a lot of music from several ballets and classical artists are chosen. There's a difficulty to be able to apply all the elements required in a program, artistry, portraying the character, and also including all the technical elements. Its very challenging! But regardless, there's a few pieces I have heard that are used often during skating and I love them! One of my favorites so far that I have heard often was skated by Sasha Cohen beautifully, My Sweet and Tender Beast By: Doga. Just fabulous music. Ok, so this is a very dear topic to me. I love music.

Video from Universal Sports of Sasha performing this program.

What is everyone else skating to this year for their programs?

My program music for the upcoming season (and its my debut on ice... ):
End Title from the soundtrack: Little Children

Together We Will Live Forever from the soundtrack: The Fountain

BTW, this is beautiful. I haven't heard it used before.

Love your name on the forum!!! Its totally fun!

I used Gabriel's Oboe years ago, before Matt Savoie did. I was proud that I'd found it first! I haven't heard it too much recently, though. I agree, it's beautiful!

As far as I'm concerned, the judges have all heard everything and are all sick of everything, so you might as well skate to what you love, LOL! But if you want to explore other options, check out some lesser known soundtracks by Ennio Morricone that have a similar sound.

*sigh* I love the vocal version of it ("Nella Fantasia"). It's one of my singing obsessions right now...not so badly as it used to be, which I'm sure my neighbors are happy about, not to have to listen to me singing it over and over, lol. Can't decide which ersion I like best: Sarah Brightman, Chloe Agnew (Celtic Woman) or Paul Potts...
