The Power of a Ball

Today I brought my plush Jack-o-Lantern ball to the Mommy & Me class. There is one little girl in this class who has been moving on her own, but very slowly, not picking up her feet at all, and cries a river when she falls. I asked her if she wanted to play ball with me, and she bit. I told her that if either of us missed the ball, she should go pick it up. After a few misses, I told her to do a swizzle over the ball before picking it up(she just started swizzles today), and she was able to do that. Of course, she also fell.....but she got right up and kept on with the game! No tears and none the next time she fell either. She wanted to get closer to me to throw the ball, so I backed away, and she picked up speed! We had a great time together, and she came out of the class with more progress than she had made in all of the preceding weeks. She starts in regular group lessons next week.

That sounds like a really good idea. I'll have to remember that!
