8-Mate Scribe

My used $10 scribe is falling apart. I've lost some screws and other little pieces. So I"m going to a hardware store to replace the lost pieces, but since I'm loving Figures I'd like to invest in the 8-Mate scribe. This is the one with the marker attached to the base.

I've searched the "net" and cannot find any for sale. Does anyone know if they are still being made, and if so, where I can buy one?

With the return of some Figures to the new MITF tests, I'm hoping there will be a resurgence of these 8-Mate scribes.

Thanks,
Pat

Nick Perna is credited by Answers.com as having created the 8-Mate attachment. iCoachSkating says he works with Audrey Weisiger in Virginia. Maybe you can send him an email asking about the tool?

I've seen the "8-Mate" described twice in scribe auctions as "the optional marker attachment."
Haven't seen it in over two years, though.

There's a patent description here for Perna's device:

Whoa, there's a thing that holds markers? Cool! I've always just duct-taped a marker to the end of my scribe, but this would be way more convenient!

I'm not going for pinpoint precision in figures, and I really don't have ice that's "clean enough" to see the scribe tracings clearly. I might want to switch to a marker as well.

We have engineers on this board who might be able to read the patent and give us a more elegant solution, but the duct tape is sounding okay to me right now, lol.

I met Nick Perna at the PSA conference last week. He gave me his card and said he has a few of these attachments left. I don't want to post his email address, but if someone wants to contact him, let me know via PM.
