Your local public library CD collection, or an iTunes type service where you can sample the music and buy just the tracks you need for 99 cents a pop.
The thing is you need to have a better idea of what style of music you want. Classical, jazz, tango, polka..

I bought a couple off iTunes, a karaoke version of a song from Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mermaid opening theme, the Pirates of the Carribbean opening theme (which is really popular) and a few others. The ones I got were 1-1:30 min long.. I had to really look around though.

Try Amazon.com (not Amazon.co.uk), which has a wide selection of free mp3s (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/468646/) that you can download.
Actually, I can't find them now - perhaps they've stopped doing it.

Limewire program...you can download a lot here by just searching the various genres, soundtracks, artists, titles, albums, etc. I'm super addicted to it!
