Do any of you have videos of yourself doing jumps (waltz thru axel) you would be willing to share?

I have some videos of my toe loop, waltz, flip, loop, and salchow (unfortunely I cant yet get them online) and wanted to compare my progress to see if they are sort-of close to being decent yet :)

Nice toe jumps Amanda (and nice combination spin, too for that matter!).

As someone who's been trying to get flip for what seems like forever, I admire anyone with good toe jumps!

This is my three jump, salchow and cherry flip from around Easter time I think

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79hME5Tnaw8

Here is me doing an axel from the Summer

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qRMkjSafbjY

And that's a double salchow from around Easter time again

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l4ybQRdUf4Q

I don't seem to have any videos of me doing loops, flips or lutzes. I think that is becaused I am obsessed with my axels at the moment! Must remember to film them sometime though.

Thanks so much! How long have you both been skating?

I will see if I can get my old camera fixed to upload my vids :)

Okay here are all my singles, from about 2/3 weeks ago except waltz, not sure why that got missed out, plus a very poor lutz attempt at the end, I actually landed my first clean/proper lutz today so on a bit of a high!! :D

Ok I was finally able to upload some videos :) (youtube isnt working for me, but I have them on another server).

Any critques/ advice would be great! I took them all from a 3-turn entry with little speed because I wanted to make sure the camera caught it

My flip jump

A toe loop and flip jump - pretty bad but some attempts

This is my salchow the day I learned it -unfortunely it isnt much better now (the fall on the flip attempt after was just strange)

if that link doesnt work try this: http://nutrifitness.net/salchow%and%fall.MOV

My upright spin - it travels so much :(

What you want is http://nutrifitness.net/salchow%20and%20fall.MOV

Better is to use all lower case and replace spaces with underlines in filenames for anything on the web to make it easier to access.

I also offer accounts for skaters to upload videos and such to at http://sk8rland.com if you want one. :)

And your spin isn't travelling that much, good job and keep up the good work! :)

Wow! Thank you for the nice comments! I first started ‘learn to skate’ one a week classes nearly 7 years ago, then did ice dance for a while and then started proper free skating lessons about 4/5 years ago I think.

Newskater - I couldn't open your videos

Katherine - I can steal my brother's camcorder and film loops, flips etc when I am next at Queens. (providing management don't tell me off - they did last time, silly rink!)

Skatingdoris - Congratulations on the lutz! That is great!

Amanda - your videos are great!

Mine are finally now working on youtube - any comments/critiques would be great (I know they arent great haha). My spins are finally back to normal and centered as of today woo hoo (they have been traveling like crazy lately) so the spin video is a lot worse than they were today (finally!)

Dang!! you guys are great. Amanda, I agree that your moves are really good. You make those power pulls/one-footed slaloms look easy. Mine (okay, well, I'm just playing with them and am 2 levels away from it) are soooo shallow. It's always encouraging to me to see REAL people doing these things. I'm hoping to take my digicam to the rink tomorrow to see (horrors!!) what the heck I look like).

NewSkater: you have nice spring on your jumps! My comments are minor. For waltz jump, when you step and push to LFO, you want to have leading shoulder (L) a little bit ahead of R side, then pass both arms close to your body and behind you before springing off. From your video, you point your L arm to the center of circle and move around to behind you, which may be fine for now, but it will be hard when you move up to axel!

Amandaskategirl: that's very nice video. Love the power pulls and ease of the jumps.

This might soung like an erm...very simple question, but does anyone have any clips of them doing chasses - what ever they may be? They're on level 4 of the Skate UK Programme and I haven't got a clue what they are

I don't have a video of a forward chasse but that is a video of me doing the willow waltz and there are backward chasses in that dance. The back chasse is after the introductory steps three turn and back run.

In simple terms, a chasse is a push onto an outside edge, bring feet together and step onto the inside edge of the opposite foot and lift the free foot straight up (rather than extending behind as you would do for an ordinary push) bring feet together and push onto an outside edge of the other foot again.

I'm not very good at describing but hopefully you will see it in the clip.

Don't know if that helps at all.

Wow! I am so impressed! Nine months isn’t very long at all! I would have thought that you have been skating much longer after watching your videos!

It looks to me like you have very quick rotation on your flip which will be great when learning doubles!

From figureskating.about.com (http://figureskating.about.com):Definition: A chasse is an ice dance step where a skater first strokes and extends. Then, the skater brings the feet together and lifts the other skate slightly off the ice.

Not video, but a slide-show style presentation: http://figureskating.about.com/od/glossarylette2/ss/chasse.htm

I've got to say, I'm terribly impressed, too! You look very athletic, do you have a background in gymnastics, or, I don't know, soccer or something?

Thanks! Yes - I was a higher level gymnast (not elite but like around level 9) - unfortunatley I twist in skating like a gymnast - using my arms and shoulders - which I am apparently not supposed to do - Im working on it but its a very hard habit not to set and twist with the shoulders haha :)

I agree, you are doing great for how long you've been skating!

What I see on your salchow is that you are taking off immediately as you exit the 3-turn rather than holding the LBI exit edge ("checking the 3-turn exit") and then bending the knee and taking off. As my coach always yells at me, "The 3-turn is not part of the jump!" LOL! To hold the exit edge and control it, keep your upper body still during the 3-turn with your left arm at 10:00 and your right arm at 3:00 or 4:00. Also keep your free leg behind you on the exit, just like you're going to do a flip jump. Then bend the left knee deeply, and only start to bring the free leg forward once you start to straighten the takeoff leg to initiate takeoff.

What I see on your flip and toeloop is that you have great action vertically (popping up off the toe) but you need more horizontal momentum to balance it out and get some outflow on your landing. Here's how to get more outflow:
- Start with more speed, especially for the flip (I know you were just going slowly for the camera).
- Bend your skating knee more deeply on the 3-turn and stay down on the knee as you exit the 3-turn instead of rising up.
- Reach your free foot farther back to pick, pulling your shoulders back and arching your back so you get your weight onto the picking toe. Stay low on your skating knee when you pick so that you "jump from down, not from up". This is especially important on the flip.
- When you put your pick into the ice, pull yourself back with it so that your skating foot slides back toward the picking foot before you fully straighten both legs and leave the ice (this is also more for the flip, but also somewhat trure for the toeloop).
- On your toeloop (but NOT on the flip), you need to cross your right leg in front of your left leg as you leave the ice so that you are pointing the way with your right foot once you're in the air, just like on a salchow or waltz jump.

I can't wait to see how good you are in another year! 8O

WOW! I started learning a salchow yesterday, and while I got a "good" out of my coach once or twice - it was purely coincidence I was able to do it. Most of the time I forgot to jump! Yours looks great!

Thanks everyone for posting your videos- it's great to see what level other adults are at.

Thank you all so much for the comments and advice! It helps a lot. Luckily for my - the jumping comes a bit easier since I dont really have any fear. My weakest area (which I know is super important) is MITF since I have a bit of a sequencing problem (kinda like dislexia of the body even though I dont have the problem with anything else), so learning the steps is killer, but I'm working on it :)

All the videos you guys have shown are terrific and really inspiring! Thank you.

And I used the advice give and my toe loop and flip felt better today. The waltz is much higher and floats a bit - heres hoping to an axel in the (hopefully not too distant) future!
