Apologies if this is double-posted.

So I have a little basic skating book that lists the first five basic dances. The patterns of the Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango look to me like lots of deep, secure edges. In the margin notes it says 'swing roll' and 'chassés', and I can't figure out what these moves could that makes them different from alternating edges.

Anyone have a good description or a picture?

Here's a good description of a slide chasse online
http://www.skatepro.f9.co.uk/tip-chasse.htm

The slide chasse is more of a step - slip. It shows up on the Intermediate MITF. If you have a rule book you can see it from the diagram there.

I'm not a dancer, but from what I understand a swing roll is like taking an forward left outside edge and rolling the free leg from back to front.

Try this link... :)

Do you have a dance club near you? Or your coach should be able to help you out...

A swing roll can be on either foot, either inside or outside edge, and either backwards or forwards. For the Dutch Waltz and Canasta Tango I THINK (from what I can remember) that all the swing rolls are forward outside (both feet).

Another really good site is Jimmy Young's (http://www.jimmy-young.co.uk/) - click on "Ice Dance Notes"

Thanks! I think I'm sort of learning swing rolls now.
