Has anyone tried this or something similar. Seems expensive, but I am interested in supplementing my workouts w/ exercises directly aimed at skating.

I have. It can be fun, although just sliding back and forth does get tedious and boring (quickly). You can vary your intensity by moving the sides out further, lifting your knees higher, swinging your arms harder, etc. And, if you don't "grease" it with the silicone spray as often, it doesn't slide as easy....

but, it's mostly back and forth and back and forth and back and forth.......

I'd rather go biking or roller skating....

I use a Pro Fitter. It was suggested by my physical therapist/hockey player. Pro_Fitter (http://www.fitter1.com/exercises_pf.html?mtcPromotion=Exercises%3EPro_Fit ter)

Checked out this site. Looks cool, but the thing is $400-500. Too much for me right now. The slide board I was looking at was much less. But I think I am convinced it would be too boring. Thanks for replies.

You can easily build a slide board with materials from Home Depot. There are directions on the internet if you search.
