I was just wondering if anyone had reports ,predictions or results
on this competition

I'm going! It looks like a great competition. Some of the better known senior competitors are Felicia Beck, Danielle Kahle, Beatrisa Liang, Naomi Nari Nam, Ryan Bradley, Dennis Phan, Stiegler/Cording and Inoue/Baldwin.
It starts tomorrow with little ones competing in the wee hours and goes well into the evening. I'll see as much as I can but my own child is competing later in the week and I don't want to wear her out!
I am not good at reporting elements but I can report on who placed where. If you have an event you are particularly interested in, let me know and I will try to get the results posted.

Thanks, Babyskates -- anything you can do will be appreciated! Good luck to your little skater! :) I'd love to hear about the senior ladies, especially Stephanie Rosenthal (from Utah, 8th in Junior at 2003 Nationals) who is one of my faves for creative choreography and her performance/presentation ability.

I'm with Sylvia. I would very much like to hear about Stephanie Rosenthal. I would also like to hear about Braden Overett. Especially if he attempts/lands his quad.
Thanks for any efforts from Babyskates and anyone else.

My guess is that these guys have passed the senior moves and free since it's so close to Sept. 1st, but I still wonder...are any of these new seniors just skating up for this competition?
Specifically, I'm interested in Kahle and Rosenthal.
Thanks,

I attended a lot of today's competition but didn't write down results. I will write them down tomorrow and post them tomorrow night. For those of you who are like me and can't wait, I'll post what I remember right now. Many of the favorites had bad skates but most of them (but not all of them) held on to make it to the final round. Everyone has a bad day every once in a while and today was Novice Britney Torreon's turn. She has been exciting and strong this season but had a hard skate and ended up out of the final round. There were also many withdrawls (about 20 from intermediate alone!)
In Novice Ladies Group A was won by Tenile Victorson followed by Victoria Rackohn. In Group B Michelle Trinh won, 2nd was Nicole Pearson, 3rd was Crystal Shum (a very poor skate for her but enough to make the final group). Camille Gonzalez won Group C convincingly with Rebecca Hughes taking 2nd. Molly Clingan was 3rd and Linda Park was 4th. Top 5 go to final round. I'll post full results up to 5th tomorrow.
In Intermediate Ladies Caroline Zhang won her qualifying group but gave up a couple of first place ordinals to Mirai Nagasu. Rachael Flatt, Kathleen Raftery, and Angelyn Nguyen made the final round from group B. Group C is a total blur to me right now. Anna Malkova, Danielle Endow, Hannah Benet and Hasmik Saakian were the finalists from Group D.
Nick La Rouche (SP?) gave an exhibition of what looks to be an excellent short program for him. The music is beautiful and his skating is beautiful. He warmed up a quad but did not put it in his program. He looks really good. I'm looking forward to seeing how he skates (and places) this year because his artistry is much improved as are his jumps. I was not a fan prior to his exhibition but I was won over tonight.
Tomorrow (Friday) is all of the men from juvenile through Senior. Also the junior ladies skate their qualifying rounds.
Dave Amorde, was that you with the monster camera (and the big voice!) sitting behing the judges?
More tomorrow night.

Anyone have a run down of how the senior pairs looked. There are so many new teams out there I would be interested to know how each team skated and what elements they did.

Did anyone see the dance exhibition and test, if so, who was it and what level?
Thanks
BABYSKATES,
Do you have any idea why Steigler and Cording did not show up? I was hoping to have some idea of how they are doing.

Overall, it was a good, well run competition. I enjoyed Naomi Nari Nam. She is beautiful. The jumps are still not quite reliable but by Nationals (I'm sure she will go) they should be there. Danielle Kahle has big consistent triples and will be a force in the senior field this year. Felicia Beck should give lessons on "selling it" and on getting an audience to eat out of your hand!
There are some excellent intermediates. Next year's novices are going to be awsome.
The juveniles are very strong. There are some very good double axel attempts in the crowd (none clean yet) but in every competition I have attended this year, no skater who had the double axel in their program has won. Sophia Adams is the only juvenile who has been on the podium every time she has competed this year. It pretty much seems like a wide open field going into regionals. If I were to list everyone I thought had a chance, it would be about 20 names long so suffice to say, I think this will be an exciting group at regionals.
I spoke to Bebe Liang and she confirmed that she is having trouble from an old hip injury which is why she withdrew but she is ok.
Golden West 2003 is over now. It was fun. All Year Figure Skating Club should give itself a big round of applause.

Does anyone know anything about the team of Janey Mayne and Mike Modro? I loved Mayne with her old partner, and I've heard of Mike Modro, but I didn't think he was anywhere near her level. I'm surprised she chose to skate with him!
Any reports on how they looked?

I must have marked the wrong person name Power or Powers! Jackie Powers, a wonderful S. Cal skater, actually took 2nd in her qualifying group. She did a beautiful job in the finals (as usual) so I want to give credit where credit is due!
