Anyone out there go to the Miracles of Gold Summer Ice Revue last night? I'm interested, and very anxious, to hear some reports! I heard that Grushina/Goncharov debuted their free dance, but not much else. Thanks!

Not a great turn-out crowd wise. We were able to get front row seats!! I'm not good at reviews but my observations were.
Bourne & Kraatz first number was Enigma, I have seen this many times live & I still enjoy it. For their second number they skated their Original Dance from last year. I was disappointed not to see at least one new number from them.
Putnam & Wirtz - very smooth transitions, they are definitely the team to watch for the future. A beautiful couple on the ice. They didn't skate their new numbers for the season.
Shawn Sawyer, a personal fav as he skated in our local ice show in March. He's a true showman on the ice but very quiet and well-mannered off the ice. Both of his numbers were new to me & I'm so impressed how he gets into his music. He has died his hair jet black & was wearing a studded-like dog collar. Makes me wonder how this will go over with the conservative amateur skating world but koodos to him for doing his own thing. He has got so much potential.
Orscher & Lucash - very exciting show team to watch, have a great look but not as smooth as Putnam & Wirtz.
Ross Miner - this cute blond kid is adorable & has loads of talent. He was a big crowd pleasure. I think he is 10 yrs old.
Don Jackson & the Protopopov's - One word - Amazing - To be doing what they can do at their age blows my mind. They announced that this was the Protopopov's 49th year skating in shows. Don Jackson just gleams the whole time he is skating
New York, New York medley by local skaters - extremely well choregraphed and a treat to watch.
Kevin VanderPerren (Belgium) - I haven't seen him skate before but he was also quite impressive
Grushina and Goncharov - they didn't even have costumes on, she was wearing a t-shirt and leggings!! but if this is their new free ( I can't remember if there were lyrics or not) then the rest of the skating world better look out. She is an incredible skater and he's certainly easy to look at. I will be rooting for them this season.
Thanks to all participants for giving me what I've been lacking - SKATING!!!!!!!!! Driving those windy roads in the middle of the night going home was well worth it.
One last thing, Jeffrey Buttle was advertised to be there but wasn't. Can anyone fill me in on why he wasn't there???
Also, found this bookstore on the mainstreet that has a ton of old used skating books very reasonably priced. A gold-mine for any skating memorablia collector.

Jeffery Buttle was and is competing at Skate Canada's COS Summer Skate in Thornhill, ON. Check the Skate Canada website to get the COS site then pick competitions and results 2003-2004.

Thanks for the review, cindy66! Any comments on Gregory/Petukhov or Parker Pennington? Any idea what music Shawn used for the goth program? Sounds interesting.

Shawn's music was a version of Annie Lennox's "Sweet Dreams" but it was a male singing but not sure who, taking a guess at Marilyn Manson but don't quote me on that. Ha Ha
I have a horrible memory as well and Gregory and Petukhov skated to a patriotic song, maybe God Bless America, it was beautiful nevertheless and she wore a stunning white flowing dress. Sorry I forgot about them as well as Parker Pennington and he skated to Justin Guarinni's singing his version of Kelly Clarkson's "A moment Like This"

I was really looking foward to seeing Miracles on Ice, especially Gregory and Petukhov. Unfortunately, my Dad didn't believe me when I said it would take four whors to get there, he thought he could make it in 2.5 hours. So by the time we got there, it was intermission. And G&P only skated in the first half, so I didn't get to see them at all, except when they came out at the end for bows. I'm still depressed about it! G&G were very good, although I didn't like their outfits. O&L were good but not spectacular. I liked Putnam&Wirtz, and I really like that they skated to Josh Groban. Shae and Vic were great, and she's just as perky live as she is on TV!

I loved Sean's and Liz's second number by Josh Groban it was so nice I just love that ina bauer that they do together it was great. They did a HUGE triple salchow it was sooo high they are looking really good.
Orscher & Lucash were alright not as stunning as Putnam and Wirtz thou, I find they are a little scratchy I donnu I think they just didnt have the chemisty that night they were really connecting. I also watched the practice the night before and she was falling and putting her land down on the throw double flip. I had to take a double take when I saw them on the ice. But he is such a wonderful partner! Soo strong very secure!
Shae and Vic's original dance number I prefered, I saw the Enigma program at the SKATE WITH ELVIS tour and I liked it better then, shes turned soooo RUSSIAN, not that it a horrible thing but I thought she was a lil over the top with this one. I prefered the more settled presentation with the OD one.
Grushina and Goncharov.... WOWZERS they are soo trained! I couldn't believe it they werent wearing any formal costumes but for one I appreiciated it there was no frivilous costume distracting the skate it was just the skating. They have improved alot I really like this program it was like a dedication to the war efforts it started off with a helicopter sound and moved on into stronger more effective music at the end... More and more power throughout the dance! I was extremely impressed they were one of my highlight of the night I kept on saying to myself..Oh my god imagine this at worlds if it looks this good already!
Gregory and Petukhov were dressed in white this is an interesting number. They skated to god bless America, which was sung by the canadian Celine Dion. Shes american and hes russian so I thought it was kind of a funny choice. This was a very good program there is alot of room for more edges and speed but that will come in time. It was a very graceful number and I really think it has alot of potential!
Parker Pennington I have never seen him skate until now and there is just something about his skaing that I really like. He isn't the most artisical skater but he has this charm to him. His spins were soo amazing and in his second number (AI) he tried a 3 lutz 3 toe and step out and kind of fell (on his knees) but I thought it was good of him to take all the chances and get out there an do it infront of a crowd. I admired it. His toe jumps were alot better then the edge ones but he still completed them all but the edge once have this Arc and flight to them. He did the american idol show program and his short I believe it was to secret garden....I think. A very talented skater he is.
Shawn Sawyer kinda went out on to a limb with his marilyn Manson program but I actually prefered it to his other program later called 'save yourself' ( I think ) He did triple lutz double axel and triple loop. They only think he didnt do was he popped his double axel in the second number. He was a good performer he had the backflip and the amazing spiral and a REAL 'Y' spin it was in the total splits he was a crowd pleaser with all his lil stunts he performed.
Kevin VanderPerren, oh I like this kid, I've read and heard about him but I have never seen him skate and I really like his style. Hes got the alexei Yagudin program footwork going on and skated to a Tango the middle like 30 seconds was Tango el Roxanne but the rest was a VERY POPULAR one that I should know the name of but I forget! He did a 3,3,3 in the finale it was good he stepped out of the last jump I believe it was sal loop toe or sal toe loop I cant quite remember.
Don Jackson was great tried 2 lutz, flip and single axel landing on the opposite foot doing a 2 salchow landing on the opposite foot againa nd doing 2 salchow right after again! It was sooo amazing hes in his 60's and can still bring the crowd to the feet! He did get an encore too! So proud of him!! What a great skater!
The Protopopovs were AMAZING! Like they were ont he 49th year of skating and she had this great death spiral it was the best one of the whole night! They also did a starlift too! They got called back 2 times after they got of the ice! Once for an encore and the second to do a there spiral! But the grace was amazing they both had perfect ballet fingers the whole time I was extremly impressed!
There you guys are!! kinda long
