How long have I been a skating fan? Something like 12 years? How many hundreds of hours logged in front of the television looking at broadcasts or tapes, and how much reading and study to gain familiarity with history and technique of the sport?

Despite this fascination, I have *never* seen a live show of any kind. It occured to me a while ago that if I were to die tomorrow, that might be one of my biggest regrets. So I'm doing something about it. The first weekend in October I'm seeing live shows on two successive days, and hang the expense. I'll go to the Campbells Classic in NYC and then the following day to a benefit exhibition in Danbury CT. List of who I'll see below. Note that several skaters will be in both shows, so will have the added twinkle of comparing.

Oh, boy, can you IMAGINE how I'm looking forward to it? Can it really be true?

In competition: Michelle Kwan, Sasha Cohen, Ann Patrice McDonough, Irina Slutskaya, Elena Sokolova, Fumie Suguri, Michael Weiss, Timothy Goebel, Ryan Jahnke, Evgeny Plushenko, Alexei Yagudin, Takeshi Honda
Exhibitions: Tiffany Scott and Philip Dulebohn, Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto, Viktor Petrenko, Brian Boitano, Ekaterina Gordeeva, Oksana Kazakova, Artur Dmitriev, Illia Kulik, Evgeni Plushenko, Timothy Goebel, Elena Sokolova, Elena Grushina, Ruslan Goncharov, Vladimir Besedin, and Oleskiy Polischuk.

Congrats! I've only been to one "live" event in my life - that was 98 US Nats in Philly (Ladies Final). Never been to COI, SOI, Ice Capades - nada, zilch. I've been to smaller competitions but nothing with any "big names" that was shown on network TV.

Enjoy! It was quite a different experience for me to see it without the "commentary" from TV (quite refreshing) and enjoyed the fact that I saw the "whole thing" since TV cuts a lot out!! :x Enjoy your experience and when the time comes - write about it! :D

Congratulations! I started attending Holiday On Ice when I was about 4 or 5 years old. I've seen COI a few times. I'm going to attend my first competition in October - Skate Canada. I can't wait!:D
