Yes, Colorado Championships is an FCS event. Today was mostly final round short programs. I saw part of the Intermediate Mens SP and whole groups for Novice, Junior & Senior Men's as well as Junior and Senior Ladies. I don't have results, but I may be able to pick them up tomorrow. Ann Patrice scratched as did Alicia Heelan. Andrea Gardner is competing though.
In my opinion Nicholas Kole of the Broadmoor skating club (who skates pairs with Brittany Vise) was the best in Junior Men's. He's always had nice footwork which has matured with him. He really moves well and has nice spins. There were two other guys in the group. They were Ok, but I'm guessing Kole won. I don't for certain though.
Senior Men's Short included, in order of finish (I lied I do know the results on this one) Ryan Jahnke (Broadmoor, Colorado), Jordan Brauninger (Northern Kentucky), Daniel Lee (Broadmoor) and Robert Crowley (Great Falls). Jahnke has grace and adequate power. He landed a nice tripple axel in warmup but fell on it during the short. He landed a nice 3Lutz/3Toe. Brauniger skated to Summertime. 3Ax was a bit short but close. He did a 3Flip but I'm not sure about his combo. Lee also stood up on a 3Axel, but doubled his flip combo and fell on a 3Lutz.
I believe that Caroline Miller (Rocky Mountain, Colorado) and Amber Kaiser finished 1/2 in Junior Ladies SP, but I'll try to check tomorrow to make sure. Both, as well as several others, moved across the ice beautifully but the most of them missed one or more elements. There were some nice double axels and a few tripples. Only 9 out of the 15 listed in the program actually competed.
There were seven Senior Ladies short programs. They showed the marks but I couldn't calculate placements for all seven in my head. I'm guessing that Andrea (Huston) won and that Erica Archambault was second. Andrea was powerful and skated a very nice performance despite somewhat two-footing all her jumps (3Flutz, 3Flip, 2Axel). Her ice coverage and speed are good and sure; she moves across the ice really well; and she got some nice height on most of the jumps.
Archambault was the best performance in my opinion except she doubled her combo. I believe she I wrote she did a 3Lutz and a nice 2Axel. Erica had wonderful speed and ice coverage lovely, delicate, elegant form. This was really a pretty good group of Senior Ladies which also included Karlen Armstrong, Ashlee Homan, Lea Nightwalker, Stacey Pensgen & Jaequelyn Gugianto. There was a lot of nice, fluid skating, good footwork, some good tripples but not many perfect performances. Good group anyway. Nice to watch.
In addition, I saw two dance couples, each in exhibition, one Juvenile and one Novice. The were both decent. Also, got to see a nice Novice Pair with lots of potential, Lisa Moore & Nick Girardi of Fort Collins, Colorado. He's a good partner, strong, sure. Very nice overhead lifts, sustained, with good speed and coverage, one armed on one of them. Good inside and outside death spiral. Nick's a rock and Lisa has attractive possitions on both. Pretty good unity on stroking and footwork, a bit off on side by side spins. Weaker on jumps but, overall, a LOT of potential here.
Sorry for the lack of results and I'm not totally precise. I like to watch without taking notes, so I jot comments down afterwards. I am planning on going back tomorrow for at least some of Juvenile-Senior freeskates, but I've got a summer cold so there also a chance I'll end up in bed rather than at the rink. Mile High usually posts results and I'll look now and see if I can find where.
