I'd originally planned on doing nightly reports, but ended up doing things with friends in Edmonton, so these reports are a little late.

Overall, I was quite impressed with the quality of the event and my only complaint is that it would be nice if an NAC could be held closer to where I live. Edmonton's an 8 hour drive and that's the closest an NAC has come in 5 or 6 years.

On to the event (in order of finish):

Tanika Gibbons
SP (1) Big Band - 3s-2t slight hop out of the 2t, 2a, flying camel, fw into 2f, circ fw, comb spin with a bit of travel
LP (1) something balletic - 2a, wally into 3t (shaky), 3lz fall, layback, 3s, 3lp tight but clean, 3s into 2t, flying camel, fw into 2f, comb spin good. She landed at least one triple lutz in the warm-up.
A very elegant skater with nice lines, but she needs to learn how to really present the program, as she spent most of the program looking down at the ice. She's got a good feel for the music and a great look on the ice; she just hasn't learned how to make the most of it yet. I'm sure that will come with time.

Melanie Drogseth
SP (2) Middle Eastern - 3s-2t, serp. spiral sequence good speed & positions, 1a, comb spin with good sit spin, fw into 2f (lots of footwork on the entry), layback with good speed.
LP (2) Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun and Claire De Lune - 3s-2t, 2lz, flying camel, 3t fall, fw into 2lp, great layback, nice Ina Bauer into 1a, fw into 2f-2t, nice comb spin.
Really natural presentation with beautiful arms and the fastest skater in the field. She was the only novice lady to attempt to sell the program, which is nice to see from a novice. It's too bad that she doesn't appear to really "have" the double axel, as she didn't rotate it in either program.

Jessica Leatham
SP (4) The Giving - 2a hand down and turn out, flying camel, serp spiral sequence with good amplitude, 3t-2t, fw into 2f, comb spin with some problems and travelling
LP (3) Phantom of the Opera - 3t-2t, 2a-1t, layback slow, 2s, 3t hard fall, comb spin, 2a, flying camel, 2lz foot brushed, 2lp, missed a spin, arabian to finish.
A pretty skater that is fairly polished. Her spins are quite weak compared to the rest of her skating.

Stephanie Cameron
SP (5) something vaguely New Age-y - 3s-2t, totally missed the axel (did some kind of waxel entrance), layback with good back position, fw into 2f, diagonal fw sequence, comb spin good speed but weak sit spin position
LP (4) only part of the music I recognized was the middle section to something by Vangelis or maybe John Tesh - 3s, 2a landed but with a very wild takeoff, 2a, flying camel, 3t with a hand down, 3lz fall but reasonable attempt, 3s hard fall, layback, 1a, 2lz into 2lp, straight line fw, comb spin.
I probably would have had her ahead of Leatham in both the short and the long based on Stephanie's stronger spins.

Nicole Tahtou
SP (3) Swan Lake - Serp spiral sequence, 3s fall, 2a, comb spin, fw into 2f, layback that travelled. Lots of overly done Swan movements.
LP (6) Capriccio Espagnol - 2a-2t, 3lp fall, flying camel with an illusion, 3s fall, 2lz, 2f-2t, comb spin, 3s fall, 2f, 2a fall, scratch spin.
Another very polished skater with good speed, but no attempt to really present/sell the program, at least in the long. I suspect that the mistakes on the jumps affected her presentation so this performance may not truly reflect her presentation ability.

Matia Segovia
SP (7) don't know music - fw into 2f (2ft), 3s 2ft and underrotated steps into 2t, layback into a Biellman, serp spiral sequence with poor ice coverage, 2a 2ft and underrotated, comb spin weak with a Biellman
LP (7) Gone With The Wind - nice Thompson spin, 2lz, 1 and 1/2 sal into 2f stepped out, 2a fall, good layback with catch foot position, 1t into very cheated 3t (more than 1/2 rotation), death drop into sit spin, 2f tight (maybe 2ft?), 2lp-2lp, comb spin with nice Biellman.
A very respectable performance. Mexican skaters have really come a long way in the past four years. This skate from a novice would have beaten the Mexican senior skaters at 99 4 Continents. Nice spins and enjoyable presentation.

Estefania Ruiz
SP ( 8) Habanera from Carmen - 2lz-2t, cheated 2a with absolutely no speed on entry, fw into 2f, comb spin nice first half, circ spiral sequence, nice layback spin but only 4 rotations
LP ( 8) Safri Duo (Racing and something else) - 2f, 2lz (2ft), super slow entry into 2a (1/2 turn cheat), comb spin, 2lp-2t fall on toe, 2a same as first, split jump into 2t-2t hop out, layback with a nice catchfoot, 2s, flying camel with donut spin position, spiral sequence, comb spin.
Nice presence on the ice and really good spin positions.

Other events to follow, probably after I get some sleep.

Thanks for the great report. Congrats. to Tanika Gibbons. My daughter trained with her a few years ago. She was such a worker on the ice. Looks like it's paying off. Good for her!
