My, saw the movie today and I could definately see it as the next soundtrack for a skating program. Very powerful music with of course the obligatory slow parts. I wonder who'll pick this one up.
BTW: great movie!!!

I was seeing the movie the other day with one of my best friends, a Senior in freestyle, who commented that it would indeed make good skating music.

According to his journal, Kevin van der Perrin is considering using selections from Pirates for his LP, because he really enjoyed the movie.
van der Perrin is good, but I'd love to see Lambiel use Pirates. Or Yagudin--think of the footwork the music could inspire.

You know, I'm so glad I'm not the only one that goes to movies and hears soundtracks then thinks they'll be perfect for skating. I found that that movie had a whole lot of stuff. I actually want to buy the soundtrack for it. It was also my favorite non-animated movie of the year(it's a toss up between it and Finding Nemo for overall movie though, hehe).
Lambiel using it would make me VEEEEERY happy:D. Yags could too, but he said he was done using movie soundtracks so.....
Van der Perren was prety good though at Worlds, so I guess he can do a good job.

Having just scrounged through all of our pre-teen movie soundtracks looking for something my stubborn 12 yr old daughter will skate to (she liked the suite from Parent Trap, but it needs a lot of editing, while there was a perfect 1:30 segment on the Lizzie Maguire soundtrack that was so beautiful, and she hated it  ) I'm looking for more sources, so I'm tempted to buy this one as well!

Well, given Elvis's penchant for movie music ...

"Pirates" is great skating music and the soundtrack, in parts, reminded me of the "Gladiator" score, also done by Hans Zimmer I think.
Elvis won't be using it though - at least not for his long program - as he is using "Count of Monte Cristo".

Elvis isn't the ONLY skater to always choose movie soundtracks.

Yes, exactly! Hans Zimmer, who wrote the music for Gladiator, was a consultant for the soundtrack for Pirates, and you can definitely hear his influence in the music. I too and wondering who will skate to it!
Does anyone think the Frida Soundtrack might be used?
Also, in thinking ahead, I know that next year someone will use the soundtracks for Russell Crowe's "Master and Commander" out this fall and also Tom Cruise's "The Last Samurai" which comes out in December. I can't wait to buy these, and I also want to buy the Pirates soundtrack.
BTW, I have the Frida soundtrack and it's wonderful!

What songs on the soundtrack do you think will make good programs?

I know of a Junior dance team that is using it.

Ok, so I bought the soundtrack and after hearing it, I just have this to say. If this music doesn't become overused than it's utter madness because these are excellent excellent pieces for ladies, mens, pairs, and dance. Hearing some of the pieces did remind me of Gladiator as well.
Good songs for programs:
-beginning of "Fog Bound"
-all of "The Medallion Calls" (would have to transition into something because it's short)
-the middle section of "The Black Pearl"
-all of "Will and Elizabeth"
-second half of "Walk the Plank"
-all of "Barbossa is Hungry"
-all of "Blood Ritual"
-all of "Moonlight Serenade"
-last half of "To the Pirates Cave"
-all of "Skull and Crossbones"
-the last half of "Bootstrap's, Bootstraps"
-all of "Underwater March"
-all of "One Last Shot" faded into "He's a Pirate"
I like all of those choices so much I can't even rank them. Obviously some part would have to be merged into others due to the sake of time(or lack for a certain part alone) and some would have to repeat themselves to fill up time, but you get the point.

OMG you're just like me. Harry Potter has WONDERFUL pieces that people could skate to and I haven't seen it yet, so I scratch my head at the madness of that one as well.

Artemis...Usually, I'll leave a movie and say to one of my parents when I get in the van, "The music to that would be amazing for a skating program.". Their reaction is usually to roll their eyes and say, "Oh, really?".
So...Imagine my shock when two weeks ago we were leaving the theatre after seeing the excellent Seabiscuit and Dad says to me, "That music...If someone doesn't skate to that this year, then they're crazy.". My chin is still bruised from it hitting the theatre floor...:D
Really want to see Pirates. This last trip over to Sudbury was not the trip where seeing a movie was a doable thing. I'm still waiting for someone to use The Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers soundtrack. There's some wonderful music on that thing. In fact...Next year, someone could start their program w/Fellowship of the Ring, make the middle The Two Towers and end it w/The Return of the King. That way, the trilogy would be covered. :D
Okay...I'll be leaving now... :)

There are a lot of good pieces in the album so I most likely will make more depending on how school treats me. Join my yahoo clubs and you'll find them in the "files" link on the left side at the left for both. They are named 1stpiececopy and 2ndpiececopy.

Anyways, who do you think the music would fit? I say it'd fit Alexei, Evgeny, Sasha, NNN, and maybe Irina at some of the stronger points.

It's funny this topic came up. While I was walking out the theatre at the end and listening to the music, the first thing that came to mind was Yag's doing footwork. I can see the costume and all.
I love to hear music and think of a skater that would be suited to it. POTC Soundtrack needs a skater with strong footwork for the swashbucking effects. Great movie, greater soundtrack.

I'm glad someone else said it because that was going to be my response as well, lol. Apparently every skater in the UNIVERSE except Elvis is allowed to skate to movie music and not be looked down on and receive the good ole'
Funny how everyone always talks about how Elvis always skates to movie music and the fact is that when I watch skating on tv about 90% of the skaters are skating to music from some movie soundtrack.

I don't find anything wrong with sountracks. It's good music and it shouldn't be wasted. Showing variety here and there doesn't hurt though. A lot of music is sountrack and a lot isn't.
I absolutely loved Pirates! I'm going to cut my music from the soundtrack today or tomorrow, and show it to my coach on Wednesday. I just hope she'll let me skate to it, since my skating could stand to be a bit stronger. Once I know which track I'm doing, I'll post it here.

Saw it tonight finally!! Great movie!! After hearing the music, I'm sure we'll be seeing someone skate to it this year. It's too good not to be used.
