What happened to the thread about Bob Young started by What?MeWorry?
Why are topics of importance being shut down?

Without that thread, and the public interest it created, Bob Young's name would still be listed on the official USFSA bio for the Pair team.
The listing amounted to a breach of justice IMO.
All competitive athletes must fill out the application for qualifying competitions each year. It is very difficult to believe that NOBODY in the USFSA noticed this "oversight", although skating fans did!
Important thread and worth discussing in a responsible, yet honest and open manner.

i think you're being a bit hard on usfsa here.
i don't know if the folks who put up the athlete bios use the usfsa entry forms for the qualifying competitions or communications from the teams, but it is conceivable that the person doing the data entry just plain didn't have sufficient background information to catch it!
in any case, i think the point was made quite well. pity that "skaterparent" was able to effectively single-handedly trash the thread! and, in such a short time! signed up today (6-27), made 5 posts totally on the "young" and "indecent" threads in a short period of time, all really "hot." got the young thread deleted. too bad.
ah well, such are the risks on the board. i still think the issue was well discussed during the thread's brief, but meaningful lifespan.
thanks for inquiring, phuket!

The thread was removed because it was diverging from the orginal topic into getting some nasty comments in about certain skaters/parents. Please keep it to the topic and if someone like skaterparent steps out of line again, they're gonna be toast.

thanks for the clarification. without input, we're just making a "best guess."
i'm glad i printed a "hard copy" before the thread's demise.

I don't find it difficult to believe at all. The people who work in the office in Colorado Springs are administrative staff. They don't operate the rules & bylaws business of the organization. They process & enter information provided by skaters from forms. USFSA took care of it as soon as it was pointed out to them. Seems pretty responsive to me.
More interesting to wonder why skaters & parents choose to list the coach to begin with on USFSA information knowing he's been banned.

But you're assuming the coach was banned at the time the paperwork was filled out and subsequently entered into the computer by USFSA staff. We don't know whether or not that was the case.

I don't think anyone is being hard on the USFSA! It could of been an oversight with skaters of a lesser caliber, but the team that Young was coaching recieved an envelope from the USFSA. He continues to coach this team and has been a "legal" spectator coaching from the stands at events. IMHO the woman that fronts for him should also be sanctioned, as should the team that continues to defy the ban. If there are no consequences for his proven behavior, then what's the point? But most importantly, what if any, validation do the victims get if a ban means nothing more than "business as usual?" It sends a message to the public and the victims that these crimes are nothing more than an inconveinence to the guilty parties, while the victims and their families continue to live in emotional upheaval. WHERE ARE THE CONSEQUENCES FOR THE GUILTY PARTIES????

Wouldn't most people consider it the skaters and/or parents responsiblity to update the USFSA about coaching changes? All I was noting is that I can see why an administrative assistant at the USFSA wouldn't catch it. But I don't see how the skaters & parents missed it, especially when they are bringing the coach to Nationals with a ticket in the stands because he can't coach at the boards. Obviously they still want him identified as their coach because they consider him their coach. At least in this instance the USFSA did the right thing & deleted it.

yes, i agree.
i printed a hard copy of the thread including the referenced material timely to the usfsa report. it was noted by one poster that at the time (oct 2002), he was coaching appel/harris, so they were fully aware of the situation.

Let me further clarify my point - I've noticed in the past that some of the athlete bios on the USFSA website have not always been kept up to date and that old and outdated information can remain online unbeknownst to the skaters and the USFSA staff, that's all.
P.S. Kathy Collings was listed as Appel & Harris' coach in the 2003 Nationals program book.
