Oh, drats! How am I going to get to Idaho to see them?! And Sale and Pelletier. And Goebel. Maybe what I should really do is convince my husband to buy me a summer house in Sun Valley!
Has anyone ever been to a Sun Valley show? I have always wanted to, but never had the chance, due to where I live in the country. What's it like? How's the quality of skating?

Sun Valley shows are great. I have been to several and if you get there early enough you can be as close as 5-6 feet from the ice. You can also make reservations for dinner outside and watch the show. The show is held on the outside rink just after sunset. Bring a coat or blanket as it gets real chilly after the sun goes down.
One of the best attractions is that some of the pro skaters practice around noon and you can sit on the bleachers and watch for free while eating lunch. The skaters unlike the movie stars are usually very approachable off the ice and can be found sitting on the terrace or roller blading through town. Tom

I used to live in Idaho and in 1987 I worked for a summer in Sun Valley. As an employee, I got a discounted rate to see all the ice shows. Naturally, I went to every single one of them. It's been a long time, but the skaters also used to practice at 10:00 PM the night before the show. It was also pretty common to see them in the restaurants and bars after shows as well as just walking around the village during the daytime. As an ice skating freak (even then) it was unbelievably great.

back in the 60's, yeah...in the dark ages, i used to skate a solo number in the show...
i worked all summer at the lodge terrace restaurant...it was funny...saturday nights i'd serve at the buffet...go over to the rink and skate the show...and go back and buss tables after...every so often a dinner would look at me funny and ask: "didn't i just see you out there on the ice??"...
haven't been back to "sin alley" since '72...gonna have to make the trek there again soon...it's only a day's drive away....

I've been to quite a few Sun Valley shows - enjoyed them a lot, along with the resort and the scenery.
