SOI's show a few years ago was centered around Carpenter songs... remember this? I am trying to get a hold of one of the songs, but I have no idea where to find it. Does anyone know where these songs came from? They sound like a new singer and they have a funky dance beat backgorund.

thanks!

Can you remember which song? IIRC, there were several different performers in that medly. At least one song was performed actually by the Carpenters (Solitaire), and other songs were covers. I think the "funky" one you're referring to might be "On Top of the World" (the closing number, I think).

Besides Kurt's "Solitaire," the only other "original" Carpenters song SOI used in that medley was "Superstar" (Lucinda Ruh's solo at the very beginning). Here's the information I could find about the other songs they used:

(2001-2002)
Song: Carpenters
Singer/Composer: Karen Carpenter/Joi Cardwell, Divine, Wade O. Brown, Jason Dean, Jazmin, Kathleen Eyman, Linda Cara

Song: Close to You
Singer/Composer: Divine

Song: Top of the World
Singer/Composer: Jason Dean

Song: Solitaire
Singer/Composer: Karen Carpenter
Type of Program: Carpenters Finale-Group Number

Song: I Won't Last a Day Without You
Singer/Composer: Jazmin

Song: Say Goodbye to Love
Singer/Composer: Kathleen Eyman

Song: I Need To Be in Love
Singer/Composer: Linda Cara

Song: We've Only Just Begun
Singer/Composer: Jazmin, Divine, Linda Cara

Jazmin is also credited as the singer who performed Tara Lipinski's version of "Proud to be An American" that year, in case anybody's interested. :) Hope this helps!

Wow! that's impressive!

Thanks for the info. I love that medley and had been curious about the songs for quite awhile. :D

I'm flattered, KingBob, but I'm afraid I don't deserve credit for the information I posted in my last message: I just copied and pasted it from a Tara fan site (sorry, I can't remember which one; it was just the first page that popped up when I did a Yahoo! search).

The song list was also posted on the official SOI website, but they must have taken it down when they replaced it with this year's music list instead.

I didn't know Divine composed Carpenters songs...I loved him in all those Jon Waters movies. ;)
