Boy, do I know about skating withdrawal. I get to see COI tomorrow, and that will give me a nice buzz for about a week. Then I'll go slowly nuts til Skate America rolls around again. :)

You guys don't know real skating withdrawal until you are the one on the ice who trains, tests and competes and then you have to take the whole long summer of 3 and half months off of the ice due to injury and possible surgery. Watching skating isn't enough. I can watch other skaters skate anytime I like but it isn't the same.

Well, off to the gym I go to work off my skating withdrawal frustrations........ sigh!

I just got 6 new tapes and haven't finished watching them yet. Then I have some serious editing to do, as I don't need to keep everything I have, but want to keep selected programs. I'm a skater also, and often watch certain programs or skaters over and over to help learn a new skill or refine an existing one.

Singerskates...I know that feeling and hate it. I could just go on a two week vacation and I get insanely cranky and out of sorts until I can get back on the ice. Which is why August is a horrible month-my rink closes to re-make the ice so I have to skate in the burbs, and there's no skating on. I'm currently throwing a fit because my rink is closed on Monday which means that I can't go in and take advantage of the day off by skating for three hours.

I know exactly what you guys mean but I go through withdrawls after like 4 days! I bring out the classical music go out to the middle of the lawn (I live in the country so no one sees me) and just play around with the music. Then after that its off to the TV, On the 1 week break I watched 2003 worlds soo much! Also I download music selections and videos off of rinkside, I'm pretty sure that I can do Sasha Cohens Short program just by memory now actually. I cant imagine taking 3 and half months off I would be soo CRAZY!!!

I, too, am going through the season's tapes. Plus, I'm thinking of taking my first skating class in the summer.

Mostly I'm awaiting an announcement about Canadian coverage for next season. My husband keeps telling me not to worry, we'll get coverage, but I'm. . .worrying.:(

ITA with both of you. I thought I had ice (and a lesson) this morning, and my coach called at 8 am to tell me we didn't. So no skating for 3 whole days

I hear others talk about their only rink closing for the summer and I am so glad I live where there's abundant summer ice (BTW Singerskates - why don't you come across the bridge sometime to skate - let me know!)

I'm just a spectator and not a skater (yet) and I feel it too. About 2 weeks ago my sister dropped some stuff off at my house and among the stuff was my 2002 Olympic tape with the ladies SP's & LP's & the exhibition. I had totally forgotten that I'd lent it to her! So I watched the competition over again, even though my heart still breaks over Michelle

Why would you worry about not getting coverage ??? CTV/TSN always has alot of skating coverage during the season. Your husband is right, don't worry :)

CTV/TSN's contract with the ISU for international events finished this season and they are not trying to renew it. So far, I haven't heard of any other Canadian network going after the rights for international competitions, so other than Skate Canada and Canadian Championships, we don't know what competition coverage we will be getting.

If you're lucky enough to get ESPN Classic Canada, it looks like they'll be showing a lot of vintage skating events over the past few weeks: they're showing 1999 Skate Canada (okay, so that event's not that vintage--LOL!) and 1993 World Pros (which I don't think has been shown on this network before) during the next few weeks. Some of these events have already been shown last winter, but this time of year, any skating on TV is better than no skating at all! :)

Unfortunately, I can't get this channel so I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with my tapes until next fall.

As for CTV/TSN deciding to broadcast only Skate Canada and Canadian Nationals, hopefully some kind of deal can be hammered out (either between them or another network like CBC) so we'll be able to see at least a few other competitions next season (preferably less than three months after the actual event took place, not like this season!) Hopefully Elvis' decision to return to eligible competition next season will influence CTV/TSN to expand their skating coverage a little more, too (and if Elvis manages to make the 2004 world team, I imagine some Canadian network would be interested in picking up the broadcast rights!)

WOW I didn't relize that CTV/TSN contract was up for all ISU Events. Geesh where have I've been. Wowzers, well then I do hope that something does get agreed upon.

sk8er1964, it's not about not having ice. There is ice starting mid-July. It's that I have to take a medical leave to heal up and get the bunion surgy done. I found out that I'll have to do one foot at a time. I'm going to miss quite alot of work unless I can find myself an accounting/booking job to get off of my feet.

Besides watching a lot of skating tapes, I read some of the skating fiction available online during the long summers!

This is a good link to most of it that's online: http://users.tellurian.net/lizwoolf/skatefic.html

Be warned that not all of it is updated on a regular basis and some of it isn't really realistic but fun to read anyway.
