I hope this is the right category for this - I received an e-mail from the Worlds organizing committee about hotels (I think I got this b/c I had e-mailed them previously about the snafus w/their web site). Anyway, they say this will be up on their web site when it is re-launched next week but I thought I'd give everyone here who's going a heads-up.

Basically, discounted rates are available at the Holiday Inn on C Street (near L'Enfant Plaza Metro), the Best Western in Arlington, VA, and selected Marriotts. They give a link to the Mariott web site for reservations http://www.midatlanticmarriott.com/group/viewrate.cfm?id=28
, and then give a form (which you need to fax) for making reservations at the Marriott Renaissance Wash. (9th and K Sts., diff. from Ren. Mayflower where a lot of tour groups are staying). I assume this form will be on their web site in a week and the rate is $210 per night w/ a 5-night minimum. I wonder if this is the official hotel for skaters and officials, since they say rooms are limited. It's the closest hotel to MCI and the Conv. Ctr (practice venue). The web site says it's within wallking distance, but from what I know about the area, I'm not sure you'd want to walk it late at night. (people who know Wash better - feel free to jump in here)

This info was sent to me as an attachment, but it says all the info will soon be up on the web site. The letter also says that they will not be providing spectator transportation. (guess we've been spoiled by Nats) The Marriott site does give info about how many Metro stops there are bet. each hotel and MCI (assuming it's still called that by next March) and you can click on each hotel's name to get info about how close they are to Metro.

Compared to the rates at some of the other hotels, and Wash. D.C in general, it actually is. I'm staying at the Ren. Mayflower, and our rate is $239 - the cheapest they had when I made the res. - the Worlds rate for them is $269. Just out of curiosity, I checked some other hotels on the list (web page) and the rates they're offering (at 10% off their usual rates, so they say) are in the $300s.

We considered switching to the Wash Ren, but b/c there is a 5-night minimum and we're only staying 4 nights, it obviously would cost more $$ to add another night to save $30 each. (I'll be there the whole week, but since I'm in Balt., I'll be driving back and forth for the first few days before the events start to run late.)

I think the Holiday Inn and Best Western rates are cheaper than the Marriott ones.

Don't do it!!! :!:

I've been to DC before, stayed near the Metro...

http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm

It costs less than $100/night for a room with two beds, and 3 people (my parents were with me). It might be a trip somewhat into the city, but if you find someone to bunk with - you'd pay like 1/4th or less of what you'd pay to stay near the MCI Center.

Go to http://www.crystalcity.com/ and click on maps to bring up a map of Crystal City with hotel locations, including the Marriott Crystal Gateway.

Crystal City is located in Arlington near the Pentagon and close to Reagan National Airport. It has a Metro stop and when I go to events at MCI, I usually park somewhere nearby and take Metro from either the Crystal City, Pentagon City, or Pentagon stops. All are close by.

FYI - the Crystal City Marriott is built on top of the Crystal City Metro Stop. You do not even have to go outside to catch the Metro.

There is also an Embassy suites located just 3 blocks from either the Crystal City Stop or the Pentagon City stop. This might work for you if you are trying to get alot of people in one room (Each room includes a separate living room).

The DC metro is really easy to figure out - - even if you are not usually a fan of public transportation. I wish my city had one just like it.

Unless you are staying at a hotel right next to the MCI Center, I would advise you that it is more important to get a hotel near any metro station than to get a hotel close to the Center.
