Yea, I thought it was Sasha too, but hadn't seen the picture the silhouette was from. It's a pity she has that lump on her back though. it looks awkward.

The lump made me look twice at the picture. It is not the exact picture because the arms are wrong, notice which is in front.

It's the right picture

The lump is a part of her dress.

Its Sasha for sure. She has one of the best spreadeagles out there...rivals Brian Boitano's and Paul Wylie's for lean and line if you ask me. Good to see it here.

I know this comment may be considered a little frivolous, but whomever decided to use the silhouette of sasha could have used a little artistic license to make it more flattering. IN a photo, yes, you can tell it is her dress flapping in the wind, but in the silhouette, I still think it looks a bit out of place and odd.

I like Sasha and thinks she has incredible line....but.....a great lean on her spread eagle?

Nah....she does what I refer to as a butt-eagle....sticking your butt out like that shows that that legs are leaning, but the upper body isn't as much. For a real lean like Boitano or Wylie, you have to have the entire body aligned into the lean. Josee Chouinard had a great spread eagle, but for most ladies they don't get that total lean.

I wasn’t going to comment on the remark that Sasha has a great spread eagle, but since you did I will and agree with you assessment of Sasha’s spread eagle.
I will say it is no worse than most of the Ladies, she has the typical Ladies spread (butt) eagle.
Right now I can only think of Josee as having a perfect spread eagle, there is probably just a few more.

Off the top if my head here are a few Ladies that should never do a spread eagle: Nancy Kerrigan, Katerina Witt, Caryn Kadavy, Jenny Kirk, Michelle and many more.

As for Men, Kurt also has a wonderful spread eagle. He has some variety in his spread eagles.

Sasha does a butt or rump SE with a twist, i.e. twisting her upper body to show flexibility. Is the twist hindering her upper body lean? Josee has a good one. How about Peggy Flemming, she is famous for her SE into a double axel. S&Z SE into double axel back to SE are not too good.

Everyone who adds any flourish to the spreadeagle twists their upper body at some point. In one sense, its not fair to compare the girls and boys, because of the narrow hips of the boys...when they tuck in, there is much less to tuck! Otherwise, Sasha's spreadeagle looks just like Wylie's to me.

Men generally prefer simplicity and power on the ice, thus the "straight" spreadeagle without much "female" flourish!

Lean refers to the angle of the skater on the edges to the ice.

I do agree, however, that Josee has a great spreadeagle, and also a great Ina Bauer.

Isn't your language unnecessarily low?

I was thinking about the whole butt thing ;) My first thought was omg... What.. hehe but then I calmed down. I think that the twist kinda covers up the fault. I mean if she didnt have her upperbody twisted her lack of tuck would be really visible. So she has the fault but when you think of it it could be worse, much worse. Oh well no ones perfect but at least it highlights the music when she does it.

Well, it might not be a "fault"...as I said, it might just be a difference in look between the girls and boys.

Check this spreadeagle by Michelle Kwan out, a little less lean on the edges, same exact tuck (note SPL precedes spreadeagle).

Thanks Kemy for those great Josee photos. :)

As I asked in a previous post, what other Lady comes close to Josee’s spread eagle?
Someone mentioned Peggy Fleming; I would love to see a photo.

I have been wracking my brain to come up with at least another Lady with the quality of Josee’s spread eagle. Anyone?

Among eligible ladies today, I'd say Sasha has the best spread eagle.

Thanks for the Josee pics...what a great skater!

She is a prime example to me of a great skater who never won a lot of international gold as an amateur....I always enjoyed the quality of her skating nevertheless!
