2001 Music Question

I was watching 2001 Worlds today and happened on Yunfei Li's short program. The music is listed as "Big Stage" by Goligher. The problem is - that's not what the music is. This music is actually and orchestrated version of the Spanish Dances by Moskowski. I know this because one of my piano students has been working on the Spanish Dances for the last two years. I have checked some of the music sites and they all have it listed as Big Stage. I know that skaters are notoriously bad at getting the music listing right so who knows where this came from.

Does anyone know anything more about this piece of music and where it came from? I ask this because recordings of Moskowski are very rare and recordings of the Spanish Dances are non-existent. I surely would like to find this recording or learn more about it.

Just wanted to say thank you for sharing info about Yunfei's SP music from 2001. I had been looking for an mp3 of "Waltz Big Stage" by Goligher, but didn't have any luck. I actually couldn't find any type of music by Goligher whatsoever.

Cool! Thanks Garden Kitty. This isn't the orchestral music that Li skated to but it does have listings for the Spanich Dances. These are piano recordings which is the instrument Moszkowski originally composed the Spanish daces for. Now I can request that my local library order them so they will be available for piano students to listen to.

Asianskatingfan - do you have any access to the asian skaters, or sites or anything. They seem to find copies of "western" music that none of us know anything about.

Nope, I wish I did. I'm just a huge fan of the Asian skaters. :D I agree that some of the western music they chose is very difficult to find or the translation of their music isn't quite exact. For example, I've been trying to find Xiaodong Ma's '01/'02 LP music, which had been listed as "Jerry" by Green, but haven't been able to find anything whatsoever. His music sounds like it's from a soundtrack, but to what movie I have no idea.

It's track #8. Before listening to the clip I saw that the piece was played by the London Symphony Orchestra, so I thought that this very well could be it. So this is definitely the 2nd part of Li's SP, the 1st part is probably "Big Stage" because it is definitely a waltz. Thanks again for telling us what it was. I hope I can d/l it without having to buy the album. :D
