View Full Version : Did anyone else get SOI playing cards in the mail?

I received a pack of SOI playing cards (one side is the SOI logo and the other is a pic of a cast member or choreographer) in the mail today in a small brown envelope from IMG. I wonder if this is b/c I went to this year's show, ordered tix for next year (the order is in my name), or signed up for something on their website. I don't remember signing up for anything (and I sure hope I didn't spend money for these, but I think I would have remembered if I did :) ) and I was just curious to see if anyone else got something. Maybe since turnout at our show was so bad, they felt the need to reward people who were there - who knows?

I couldn't help thinking, when I first saw the cards, about the deck of cards distributed to soldiers in Iraq to help them ID the Iraqi leaders wanted for capture. The "Ace" in this deck, however, is Alexei Yagudin. Tara (was she ever even on the tour this year?) is the "Queen" and Kurt is the "King." Todd is the "Jack" - glad to see him getting some respect. :)

I love playing cards! I wonder if there's a place we can buy some?

I think you got the cards because you responded to a letter from SOI asking you if you wanted to upgrade to on ice seats (from your advance order). You must have done so?

Yes, Laurie, I did upgrade - that must be it. At first I didn't want to, but the other people I was going with were all for it, so we did it. We actually ended up right in the center. We decided to do the same thing for next year, especially seeing how the show's improved with the new cast and all. I'm not totally convinced that the seats are worth $80, though, but at least we didn't have to pay those exorbitant Ticketmaster fees with them.

Seats for next year's COI at the MCI Center (which went on sale this week) were $95 for the first 5 rows. I decided that, even being as big a skating fan as I am, I had to draw the line somewhere, so we ended up getting the 6th row for $65. Ironically, they are exactly 2 rows behind where we sat for Worlds (at Worlds, the seats were occupied by Louis and his friends).

Re: the playing cards - I would try their website, bbtano. I think they have some stuff for sale in a merchandise (or similarly-named) section.

Someone at rssif confirmed these cards were sent as a gift for placing advance orders for tickets for next year's tour and posted a list of all the skaters featured on the cards:

2 - Christopher Dean
3 - Michael Seibert
4 - Sandra Bezic
5 - Steven Cousins
6 - Ina & Zimmerman
7 - Meno & Sand
8 - Sale & Pelletier
9 - Berezhnaya & Sikharulidze
10 - Katarina Witt
Jack - Todd Eldredge
Queen - Tara Lipinski
King - Kurt Browning
Ace - Alexei Yagudin

I'm guessing these cards were probably made up before Tara and Steven had to leave the tour at the last minute.

I hope they send me some too! I always order tickets a year in advance.

The cards were given out for placing advance tickets for this year's (2002-2003) tour. I placed an advanced order for this year's tour last year after last year's tour, but not for next year.

Ewwww, why is Sandra Bezic above Christopher Dean? I think the Dean should be the voidy Ace of Spades while Sandra doesn't even deserve a card. Also, why are M&S above I&Z? M&S make me . Also, our beloved Kat should be the Queen, not Lipinski, who should be the lowly 2. At least B&S are above snoozefest...... i mean S&P :). My Cards:

2 - Tara Lipinski
3 - The Icerink
4 - Michael Seibert
5 - Meno & Sand

7 - Ina & Zimmerman
8 - Sale & Pelletier
9 - Kurt Browning

Queen - Katerina Witt

Ace - Christopher Dean

I agree the choreographers don't belong on something like this--as hard as the choreographers work on the show, I'm sure most people come to SOI to see the skaters, not the choreographers!

I also agree Katarina Witt should be the Queen (and I'm not even much of a Katarina fan!) simply because of her longevity and, um, seniority in the sport. I have absolutely no complaints about Kurt as the King, though!

I'm still waiting for mine *rolls eyes* I've sent them a few e-mails, and they keep saying that they will be sent out in 2 weeks. Looks like I might actually be getting them soon. That's nice to know.

I'd rather say there are some people who want to see certain skaters, but perhaps others who just want to see fine skating, nice routines, good entertainment.... And then it's not such a bad idea to show the audience who is responsible a good deal for that... 8-)
