This post was forwarded to me from one of the Yahoo groups:

Fred Goss & David Forberg had an interesting exchange about the job
of the USFSA executive director, which inspired me to go to
Guidestar ( http://www.guidestar.org ) and pull a copy of the 990-PF
(the USFSA EIN is 84-0768715). For 2000 (the most recent one
available), the USFSA paid "The Michelle Kwan Corporation" $830,000
for prize winnings and appearance fees; "Wice Inc. c/o Michael
Weiss" earned $361,599. Kristi Yamaguchi got $150,000. Five
other "contractors" received over $100,000. The most highly paid
executive was John LeFevre, who earned $163,975 plus a benefits
package worth $25,660. The business director and marketing director
also earned well over $100,000. The USFSA received over $9,000,000
in corporate sponsorships. They spent $612,845 on the Basic Skills
Program, and $868,612 on events. Lots of other interesting (to me)
details (53 pages worth) including a copy of the bylaws, but I
thought some tangible details might put this conversation into
perspective.

There are certainly association executives who earn much more than
this - for powerful associations with DC offices salaries around
$500,000 are not unheard of - nonetheless, it's hardly chump
change. $190,000 (salary + benefits) can go a long way in Colorado
Springs.

Personally, I find some of these figures paid to figure skaters very disturbing. There are so many skaters and teams who are struggling financially to stay in the sport.

Thanks for posting the info - wow, interesting where the money goes! 8O

I believe Champions Of America, Inc. goes to Todd Eldredge.
