I have to agree with what most of you have said. When did this child grow up? Last pic I saw of her she was but a wee one. OMGoodness! The little girl is growing up and she is sooo cute. Okay, those that saw the CBS special please tell how Daria skated. I bet she is just loaded with talent. I hope she enjoys skating and continues to do it. I would say that both the parents are very proud of her. Thanks for posting this link.

I think that Daria is going to be the next dollie of figure skating. She looks so much like her father. She is a beautiful child. I can not tell from the photos how she skates. Is she graceful and a natural like her mother and father? Can you imagine the success of this child if she has the best of both parents? She has the potential to rule the ice skating world.

I hope the ice skating world will be kind to her and may she have the inner strength to stand through it all. I hope we see lots more of her in the future. I wil be tuned it to be sure. Just think, I had lost my interest in figure skating because it has been so much of the same-o-same-o and now finally! Someone new and giving a new face to that same ole ice and a fresh breath to stale air. Yeah for Daria!!!!!:D :D :D :D

Yeh, let's just dump the pressure on this little kid because of WHO HER PARENTS WERE.
Just because she skates one routine with her mother does not mean she is the next great thing in figure skating. It doesn't even mean it's something she'll want in the long run.
A whole lot of things have to come together to make a great skater (or great anything for that matter)
Genetics is only one of them.

If you find figure skating to be only stale air and are looking for fresh breaths, try ignoring what's on TV and going to some local club competitions this spring/summer, or qualifying competitions in the fall, to see all the hard-working young skaters. No need to single out just one young skater who happens to be on TV because of family connections.

So what, I think she's great! I don't think I dumped the weight of the world on her shoulders by posting my measly little post on here some obscure message(there are thounds of skating message boards out there no offense to the moderators of this board just making a point) board in the middle of cyberspace. Some of you act like I screamed it from the mountaintops and posted it in every sports magazine around. Get real! And yes, she is a breath of fresh air, take it any way you want. Just a question - is Katia officially a US citizen now? Is Daria? If Daria grew up to compete internationally, would she represent the US or Russia? Just wondering if anyone knows the technicalities of this. Was Daria born in Russia?

Daria was born in the U.S (New Jersey, to be precise). She is a joint citizen of the U.S and Russia. I read in "My Sergei" that she can be a joint citizen until she is 18 and then must decide which country to be a citizen of. Of course, the book was written 8 years ago, so the situation may have changed.

I believe Katia is only a citizen of Russia, not the U.S, but again, that may have changed.

Daria is a member of the USFSA. When they lived in CA, she was a member of the All Year FSC. Now that they have moved back to CT, I imagine Daria will join a club there. Daria can represent the U.S as long as she remains a member of the USFSA and doen't compete for another country - if that were to happen, I think there's a waiting period before a skater can represent a different country - I believe this was an issue with Gregory/Pethukov last season, as he had represented Russia at one point.

I *think* this was the photo that was originally posted in this thread last year -- it's from the "Hallmark Skating Showcase" show in Colorado Springs, Colorado, that was taped on April 25, 2003, and later aired as a Mother's Day skating special on CBS:

Daria competed in a few USFSA club competitions at the Pre-Juvenile level last season at the age of 11, and it's a bit early to say whether or not she will ever be a serious competitive skater like her parents! ;)

Well, it's kind of like when there is a child of two great musicians, they usually end up a great musician too. Plus, we all like Katia and Daria, so we'll goo and gaa over them all we like.
