Practices are never open at Lalique unless you have a credential.

Someone asked the same question on FSU awhile back. I'm sure you can find the thread if you look for it.

If you are going to see Ben, I'd go to Germany instead. I've heard great things about the event, the practices are open, the arena is very small and there isn't a bad seat in the house, etc.

Thanks Catherine! I'll try to find that thread at FSU. I wasn't planning on going overseas this year when that came out. I was so looking forward to Paris but maybe I'll rethink things. I'll ask this in case you know, Ben couldn't even get me the credentials as a 'chaperone' or something because they'd have a limited number, right?? I had my heart set on Paris. :)

Its hard to say if you could get a credential by knowing a skater. You could try but there are no guarantees. If you are unable to do so, you'll just have to decide if going to Paris and just seeing the actual competition is more important than going to Germany and being able to see all the practices along with the actual competition.

There are pluses and minusus about both events.

Lalique: no practices but conviently held in a major city with lots to do outside going to the event

Nations Cup: cosy, small arena with great access to the event but held in a small city that can be difficult to get to and really not alot to do besides going to the event

Lalique has never appealed to me as an event to attend as I think practices are a vital part of being there but that's a personal preference.

Yeah, the practices are really important to me too usually but Paris would be nice........At NHK I got the Japan skating federation to give me credentials to watch the practices but I wouldn't expect that to work again in France. It's a tough decision but maybe if there's any chance I can get the credentials to watch the practices it would make the decision a lot easier. I'll check too to see if I know any friends going to either of these and that will be important too because it will possibly save on money.
That week is a better week for me too but I agree that Nations Cup might be better otherwise (I've never been to either).
The other thing is that although I don't know either language, I feel a little bit more comfortable recognizing a little french.

Very off topic but it was hilarious in Nice because I shared a room with a Japanese friend and every morning I would 'read' her the skating articles from the french paper in english. I could just pick out enough that I could usually understand what was going on and if I was desperate on a word I pulled out the dictionary.

Thanks for your help, suggestions, etc.!
