Well this is disappointing. I expected more out of Skate Canada, but of course, Dore is in the ISU establishment now. Kudos to Jamie and David though, and I have high hopes for the WSF over time.

"Bill Warren, a lawyer who is a past president of the Canadian Olympic Association, said yesterday that while Skate Canada is probably within its rights to refuse to deal with people who join an opposing group, he said it seems "a bit oppressive" to punish people who merely endorse it.

"If I speak out and say these people [WSF] have some good ideas and the ISU should look at these ideas, should I be blackballed?" Warren said. "I think that's going a bit too far. It almost goes to the issue of freedom of speech."

That is SUCH a cheap shot...as if ANY idea had written upon it "WSF"...I'm sure anyone can raise any objective idea or solution they like, and that if it happens to be one that the WSF has put forward, there would be no sanction of any kind... otherwise, legally speaking, its true that the Canadia Fed is well within the usual rights and issues, although I don't know Canadian law at all...in America, all sorts of professional organizations can and do expel members who endorse, much less participate in "off limits" organizations etc.

These kinds of cheap shots are not unusual from WSFers and they bother me a lot ... like blaming the whole Todd Eldredge thing on Phyllis...when everyone at the time said this was a longstanding USFSA policy, thus not her fault at all.

It seems to me, however, that there should be some room for discussion as to whether the ISU or the WSF is the best choice for Canadian skating at any given time. Just because it's what is currently happening doesn't meant that it might always be so. The way that document is written it seems to me that this type of discussion can't ever take place.

Can you please cite specific examples of where anyone authorized to speak on behalf of the WSF has made any statement at all about Todd Eldredge's problems with the USFSA, much less blaming Phyllis Howard for those problems?

It seems to me that it is an even cheaper shot to blame statements made by some of Todd's fans on the WSF.

Thanks Dr. Frog.

I am so happy that CTV/TSN cancelled the ISU contracts. I hope CBC does not pick it up either...at least for this year. Someone needs to kick Skate Canada where it hurts the most - $$$$ from corporate endorsements.

To my fellow Canadians - I guess there is always ABC and CBS.

I used to think Dore was so image conscious and money driven but his former organization is sure going in the opposite direction.

I think that you may misunderstand the situatiion, bleu. CTV/TSN has renewed their contract with Skate Canada and will be broadcasting Skate Canada (the competition) and Canadians. That is the only TV money which would have gone to Skate Canada (the organization). The contract which wasn't renewed was with the ISU which would televise the other Grand Prix events, Four Continents, Europeans and Worlds. I believe that the money for that contract would go only to the ISU.

So this is what they mean by contracts. Note to self...the addition of a "s" to the word "contract'.

All along I thought Skate Canada was sanction by the ISU not by Skate Canada and that there is only one T.V. contract. I guess I was wrong.

I can see how that can be confusing. As I understand it, the host country has the contract and benefits there from in terms of their own competition, although that competition is sanctioned by the ISU. But if the 5 other Grand Prix events are to be shown in Canada, for instance, the TV rights must be purchased from the ISU. I hope that this makes sense.
