I just saw Champions on Ice in Hartford, CT, and can I tell you that with an exception of a few people (AP, Sasha, Michelle, Yefguinnie (I cant spell), Bonnaly (I told you I cant spell), Elvis, and possibly Irina...everyone else was just horrible! Elena Solkolva popped sooo many jumps...and not just into doubles, but into singles. She did however manage to throw in a triple triple, to try and save her rep, but atleast I was left with a bad impression. Nicole Bobeck also didn't have a great skate to ABBA music, but she still has her spiral. Filipee Candellero of France made a smart move and skated to God Bless America, and being French that took some guts. He got a deserved standing obviation. Countless people made minor mistakes, and the group numbers were not in sync at all. I know this is the beginning of the tour, but come on! Also, watch out for the costumes...especially at the end (especially Michelle's :?? :?: )...you may need to bring some shades they are soo bright. The opening and closing acts had my opinion a very Las Vegas show type feel...not what I was looking for from our world champions.

I don't know...it wasn't the experience I was looking for. If you have already seen it, let me know your opinions, and if you are going to see it, let me know after. Hopefully things on tour will shape up!

Thanks for the report, I'm really glad I didn't go this year.
I basically decided to save $60 and not see it since Sarah decided she wasn't doing it--Now I think I know why she really changed her mind about doing the tour judging from what the group numbers sound like! ;)

Just out of curiosity, were the acrobats in the show this year?

Yes, there were acrobats, but in my opinion, its basically going to see people from the circus with skates on. I mean some of the balancing acts were pretty good, but about the same as you would see at the circus. They did have an act with this comidien that was quite funny.

This thread title cracks me up because I thought you were going to way Wow, it was great show! And instead, it was a Wow, how terrible! LOLOL

I don't know why that strikes me as funny, but it sure does. You got me!:D :D

I was sad that COI isn't coming to my state at all this season and that its not being aired on TNT. I really want to see MK's "Fallen" and hope that it makes to next season's fluff.

It was really funny because as the person before MK is bowing, she is warming up on the ice, (in the dark), but it looks like she is wearing a gold dress and I was going "oh no, not fields of gold AGAIN! I can't watch!) Luckliy it turned out that she was skating to Fallen by Alicia Keys, in a goldish color dress, and the program was okay, solid jumps but nothing off the charts choregraphy wise.

You got me too. Here I was expecting to read a really postive review and that COI just WOWED you - LOL !!

I'm actually surprised as to how many reviews I read about COI and I don't read very many positive responses. Over the past years, it just seems to me that people are disapointed with COI. Maybe its just me, and I manage to read the wrong reviews, but last year people weren't impressed with the show either and it sounds to me that this year is the same story. What's up with that ???

Well, at least it looks exactly like how it's pronounced. You deserve a 6.0 for creativity. :D

How was AP's performance? I missed nationals exhibitions, so I may have missed her exhibition too.

I was at the Hartford show too. I really enjoyed Michelle's performance and Sasha's too.. both are so elegant! Dan Hollander was a riot.. I really thought his program was hilarious. I thought Lang/Tchernyshev's free dance worked a lot better as an exhibition as well. I do agree with you that some of the performances were less than extraordinary though..

On a sidenote, I have a fun story from the show! I got there about a half hour ahead of time and found my seats and was flipping through the program (which is really nice this year) and then I noticed that the people sitting directly, and I mean directly, in front of me looked fairly familiar but I couldn't quite put my finger on it.. It took me a few minutes of going through my skater brain-files and it hit me--they were Gregory & Petukhof.. third at nationals this year!

As if that wasn't enough, a man I believed was Nikolai Morozov was sitting with them. They seemed to be really happy and enjoying the show! I would have said something to them, but didn't want to disturb them.

Anyways, anyone have any gossip on how they are skating in CT? I'm really curious here. Thanks!

You must take into consideration that the skaters just came from a show in Boston the night before; and then had to do an afternoon show the very next day in Hartford. Perhaps the reason for the less-than-perfect performances was simply fatigue.

That may be true, but it is a commercial endeavor & the cost of the tickets to the public are the same for all the shows, which means people should be able to expect consistent performances.
